thank you that would be great…..while you are there try and talk them round to get it airworthey when they have finished…there is no where near enough british WW2 aircraft flying today.
i do see alot of AAC aircraft around here [herefordshire that is] only this mornining 2 lynx and 2 gazelles flew over in a kind of diamond formation, the noise was fantastic by the way…but i havnt seen a apache over here yet..send some our way please.
i my opinoin the blackbird was one of the greatest achivements in avaition history,i think the only operational aircraft to come close was the mig-25,it could achive mach 3 but only for a short time, and on landing the engines had to be replaced….WAT….whilst a blackbird could happiley cruise at mach 3 for hours, well until the fuel ran out enyway…saying that if i had to chose between a blackbird or a foxbat, well lets put it this way,i would have to have a shed full of engines!!!!!!!!.
i agree, during the late 50s to the late 60s dogfighting was thought to be a thing of the past..and most if not all fighters was designed purely as interceptors.agility never botherd most designers, straight line speed and climb rate was deemed important.this was the current thinking until F-4 pilots over nam found themselves turning and burning with 1950s vintage mig-17s.the phantom was designed as a interceptor so installing a gun was not even thought of,this gave the cannon armed migs the advantage in close in engagements.
this gave the US and other nations food for thought.the F-4E variant had a cannon installed as did the F-106 dart.the soviets did the same to the su-15,installing attolls on yak-28p,and aphids on the mig-25.but this was only a stop gap measure.as these aircraft where still interceptors,so they was not really suited to the job, they where all very fast, had fantastic climb rates but lacked eny decent agility.thus the F-16 and mig-29 was born.dogfighting is here to stay…
i hope there is some brits out there who will, like me will say…HOW DARE YOU RUN DOWN OUR BELOVED LIGHTNING.they where fxxxin fantastic aircraft.and we still miss them dearly….. :dev2:
WOW…nice pictures.how meny of these gorgeous aircraft has the RAF got now.will they become operational this year…i hope so..
I think the MiG-25 is pretty sexy. I never cared for fighters with a nose intake.
thats better…….i think some of the finest combat aircraft in history had nose intakes…mig-15,mig-17,mig-21,F-86,F-100,su-7/17.and of course the fantastic lightning.to name a few..they do look a bit out of date these days i agree.but they are all classics now.the avaition world wouldent be the same without them..
[QUOTE=nastle]^ some people rule it out as useless in combat against fighters that is true to a large extent in any 1 vs1 scenario but if whole regiments of foxbats been used as was planned by the soviets in the 80s they would have seriously disrupted NATO airstrikes
can you just imagine complete regiments of foxbats coming to kick your ass…im so glad i wasnt a tornado pilot in the 80s…and if you got passed them you had thousands of floggers to deal with…..wait there i think i have to have a whiskey…
thanks
thanks mate…dont they sound weird…i hope one day one will fly again…thanks again.
shame or wat
it will be a sad day when the last aardvark [pig] bows out.at least they are still going today.eny word on there replacement…its a sad year for us brits too..jaguars are going and for a reason no other then COST CUTTING our beloved sea harriers are going to..i think im going to cry !!!!!!!!!!!!!.
dogfighter.
i wonder how good or bad these aircraft would have been in a dogfight with western aircraft at the time…a fiddler could possibly out turn a B-52, with a good pilot mind you.but i am sure a flagon could give a phantom a run for its money or a voodoo.a flagon vs f-106 or a lightning “now that would be interesting”……i have read somewhere that a yak-28p had a mock dogfight with a [possibly] German phantom over the baltic once.it was unknown if it was agression or just playing around, that would have been nice to see…..
they didnt put gun pods on the su-15 for nothing i feel..and by the way i wasnt running down the fiddler.i think the job it was designed to do [bomber killer]it would have done very well….
fiddlers
only the soviets could of made a interceptor 89 ft long..WOW, what a beast…and i agree,i can never find a good photo of one…..i can just imagine the sight and sound of one blasting off in full afterburner loaded up with 4 ash’s….
gloster great
i have always been a huge fan of the old javelin…but i have never had the pleasure of seeing one flying…why dont some group or something like that get one airworthey.there is a sea vixen that is. wat did the javelin sound like ???????….
the good old days
yeah its nice to see the f-15s over here.you can always tell they are around cause they sound totally different to the tornados and harriers we usauly get over here….but i can remember not so long ago when the old a-10s and f111s use to come over,at about 500ft.do the RAAF still use the aardvark today.we dont hear about them much over here these days..
nice to see
it is nice to see aircrft from other airforces in it…..all day today RAF tornados and USAF eagles have been roaring over here….thats herefordshire england by the way…..
