    Hello again.

“they would have to build a war time control tower, huts signs etc”

For a man whose company re-built 1930,s New York (King Kong)this shouldnt be much of an issue, and if I remember correctly the modern control tower at Binbrook was disguised as something else whilst a 1940s replica was built for the filming of “Memphis Belle”.

I for one am glad they are filming on the site, as this indicates they are treating the subject matter seriously, as I presume they will have to get RAF/MOD permission to film there(?) .

I also wonder if this means we could see a cameo from PA474 (as Gibsons “Admiral Prune” perhaps)?, here,s hoping.

    Cheers

    Hello,

I wonder if there will be any work as an extra, for a slightly overweight 47 year old who lives fairly near?

Any Pirate that came within half a mile of such a magnificient Ship or even a frigate for that matter with an 19th Century British crew would be a foolish boy.Why does Hollywood insist on making us Brits the butt of all their films surely they can make a good film without insulting our ancestors. Nelson must be turning over in his grave.

Good lord! I have a question – what factual Naval Encounter is this travesty meant to represent? I would have hoped it would have been as accurate as that well known British naval epic, “Carry on Jack” which showed amongst other laudable facts captured Spanish Ships of the line being brought home to Blighty by 4 crewmen each, frigates leaving harbour under NO sail, and a flogging didnt really hurt if you wore a string vest!

Seriously, I think a British strenghth is the ability to laugh at ourselves, and we are in danger of becoming as “touchy” as a lot of others are, Its a FANTASY movie, this is like complaining the Ghosts are not accurate, or Davy Jones tentacles are the wrong shape!

    Dave,

Thanks for your comments about the Filming in New Zealand, I for one am looking forward to this Movie, and I am sure it will be great.

    Lastly,

The original Dambusters was a box office hit in the U. K. and the Commonwealth, but a dismal failure in the U.S. I am sure this will have figured somewhere in the funding of the remake.

    Hello,

Found this on a Peter Jackson site (The B******* Have Landed!):

” Hollywood Call for Just Jane

HOLLYWOOD fame beckons Just Jane, the Lancaster Bomber at East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre, as she could feature in the remake of the Dambusters.
Movie giant Peter Jackson, who directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong, has visited the centre twice to look at Jane, which is one of only three working Lancasters in the world.

Mr Jackson will produce the remake of this renowned moment of war history with Sir David Frost, who accompanied Mr Jackson to East Kirkby.
The script will be written by Stephen Fry who also visited the centre.

Museum curator Andrew Panton said: “They had a taxi ride in Jane and looked around the museum.

“I think they came to get a feeling for it all and see what a
Lancaster looks like on the inside.

“They have not officially said they will use it but they have said when they come back it is likely they will.”

When Stephen Fry visited he brought the last remaining flight engineer from the Dambusters crew, Ray Grayston, of Woodhall Spa, along to interview in Jane’s cockpit.

Mr Jackson informed Fred and Harold Panton, who own the aviation centre, most of the movie will be filmed in his native New Zealand, but some footage will be shot in England.

Andrew said: “It was quite an honour to have them with us. It’s good they even know about it.

“It certainly puts us on the map.”

The original Dambusters film told the true tale of how Britain created bouncing bombs to destroy German dams during the Second World War.

The Pantons are now awaiting confirmation about whether Jane will get her moment of fame. “

    Anybody know any more?

    Cheers

    Hello,

Did anybody see the final part of “Superstorm” on BBC 1 last night, I was surprised at the quality of the effects CGI etc. for a BBC production.

If they could use the same effects company and replace the CGI Weatherplane (Type?) with a lanc and the Storm effects with Flak etc. the results may not be too bad.

And hopefully the storyline would not be turned into a Soap opera, like the German T.V. production “Dresden”.

    Hello again,

In regards to “Memphis Belle”, I beleive David Putnam did want to make a film about bomber command ( There are some similarities in the Memphis Belle script to a Novel by Spencer Dunmore called “Bomb Run”) and I do remember him being interviewed at the time saying he could not find anybody willing to put up the finance until it was changed to an American story, to ensure box office success in America, particulary galling as this included (as the credits say) British Satellite Broadcasting amongst others!

However times have changed and hopefully this will not turn out to be the case.

    Hello,

Found out a bit more, seems that “Bomber” is a working title (probably due to different interpratations now days) and the title could be “Joe for King”
which was the name of one of the Lancasters in the novel.

    Hello,

At the time the thinking probably was to send the junta a message “if we can put a Vulcan with 21 1000 lb bombs over Stanley we can put the same over anywhere in Argentina” and I do not think a few SHARS would have had the same effect.

    Hello,

A bit off topic, whilst flicking through next weeks telly mag I noticed on More4 (for those of us with freeview) sat 09/09 from 9.10 pm till 12.05 “Dresden”(2006) this is a German drama about a German nurse who falls for a downed British pilot and both have to endure the bombing of Dresden, apparently it does include GCI Lancasters and night fighters, and the cast list (IMDB) includes actors playing Arthur Harris, and Saunby so it may even have a bit of History included.

    Hello,

The location used looked remarkenly like South Cerney, which played “RAF Kingsmere” in LWTs (same company that made Poirot ?) “Piece of Cake” made in 1988.
this also featured Cambridge airport dressed up as “Le Touquet”.
