I once flew on a Gulfstream 1 of Air Provence International from Gatwick to Le Havre and the Co-Pilot acted as cabin crew. I think the aircraft was configured with 18 or 19 seats.

Well, if I could earn his money for running a successful airline, and have the fun he has doing it.

Haven’t you noticed, this government rips off everyone, not just air passengers. And what do they do with the cash? Give £500 to 18-year olds in 2020 to have a party, employ hundreds of people to tell you to eat your greens, throw money at any other country ‘in need’ (but not us), and subsidise asylum seekers and scroungers.
The only answer is to vote them out.

I’m sorry you can’t find anything to repect about MOL. As I said, you don’t need to like him, or what he says, but he certainly deserves at least grudging respect. Have you personally encountered him, or is your contempt at a distance?

Well, I was deeply impressed by BY767’s reminiscences. If my calculations are correct, he’s now 14, with the world ahead of him. That was an excellent ‘essay’ that he can be proud of.
    My first flight?
Ahem, 1968 in Morton Air Services’ Heron G-ANNO on a £1 pleasure flight from Lydd. Then Autair One-Eleven G-AVOF on a pleasure flight from Luton the same year. (In those days very few people could afford these new ‘inclusive tours’ that were on offer from the likes of Clarkson’s, SkyTours and Horizon.)
    Since then, all over Europe, across the Atlantic 4 times, and the Pacific once. Most types, including 747, TriStar, DC10, 727, 737, 720, 757, F100, Herald, DC3, F100, BAe146, MD80, DC9, Do228, SH360, ATR42, Twin Otter, DC8, One-Eleven, Britannia, etc.
And I’m still up for more…

Edited to add the Airbuses that I’d forgotten about!

Ryanair have a niche – which is not determined by the ‘class’ of their passengers. They fly between secondary airports in Europe. By and large, they have NO competitors on their chosen routes. They are passionate about keeping costs down, and that’s passed on to passengers. And the punters love it, whether its the burghers of Neiderrhein or Erfurt, or people who decide to ‘weekend’ in Tampere, it’s a successful formula, and the aircraft are operating at unfeasibly high load factors.
Mr O’Leary is a clever man, and the coverage of this hype and controversy would cost his company millions if they had to pay for it. But of course, they don’t – and virtually everyone in Europe has heard of Ryanair.
And the clever thing is, that even if FR isn’t the cheapest way of getting from A to B, the hype means that Joe Public thinks it is.
You might not like the man, or what he says, but at least concede him a degree of respect – in his terms, he’s doing a brilliant job. Don’t write him off just yet!!

The crash site was, from memory, a few miles west of Los Rodeos on the slopes of Mount Teide.

On the same trip I visited Los Rodeos (and went again last year). On both occasions I was surprised that 747s would have visited such a small airport (although at least one of them had diverted from LPA (which I haven’t visited, but I guess is larger).

On neither trip did I see any memorial. Of course that doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

Saw the crash site a few weeks later – lots of broken trees and scorched earth. Not a pretty sight.

Harrods are an FBO (Fixed Base Operator).

They handle exec aircraft, run a VIP terminal, maintain aircraft, etc. It would appear from activity levels that they are doing OK.

And Airline Owner – thanks for the welcome. Any chance of a lift??
