Still, i think it goes with price & mission. And what of the crew? There’s a few options to this:
Tornado – 2 engines/2 crew
JAS39 – 1 engine/1 crew
F-15 – 2 engines/1 crew
M2000D – 1 engine/2 crew
The latter is rare anymore, and even those accounted are ‘off’ variants whose main model is of a formers’ mold. Funny how they seem to fit the balance more often when single engined than when dualled. But obviously most air arms approve and prefer the dual engined method regardless of any IR, maintenance or other issues.
I’d go that way as well. It goes back to an earlier post – i’d rather have an engine go out than the engine go out. Modern day dependability doesn’t matter. I barely trust twins to cross the Pacific! And remember when twins practically couldn’t cross the Atlantic?
Alas, ’tis too late anyway.
Besides, he knows i’m only funnin’.
What can we do to make this forum better?
NOT vote Flood has moderator for it?
Well, it was one of the few images of an aircraft i like that was small enough to still be recognized and fit in the tiny constraints of these forums’ guidelines.

Most MC & AC 130s i’ve seen carry various items on those hardpoints. ECM pods, ACMI pods, “shell” pods (the hollowed out versions sometimes used to drop leaflets). There are very rare shots of some 130s actually having two sets of tanks (on the inboard & outboard pylons). Never have heard of them carrying direct offensive weapons.
It’s too hard to just pick one, so i’m going to at least break them down into jets/props;
Jet – Uhhh…
Prop – Fw190. But HM to the P-38.
Jet – Uhhh…
Uhhh…
I can’t decide.
Part of me wants a Harrier, so i have something to take home and park in the garage.
Part of me wants an A-10 because, Hey! It’s an A-10!
Part of me wants a Mirage 2000 (no matter the suffix), because i’ve always had a soft spot for Mirages.
Part of me wants the XB-70, just to say i’d flown it!
Part of me….
Ah, screw it.
Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
Why the Air Force is so obsessed with keeping ancient airframes in the air just to save money is beyond me. An EB-52? Keep the A-10s (which i do love, but geez)? Retire F-117s (why are they F-117s? All they do is attack..)? Let’s age the fleet even more. Oh, and discard the KC-767 idea. The EPITOME of stupid. Like sticking with 707s is such a genius idea.
F-35s to the rescue, eh? Oh, boy. Hope they finish well. The AF doesn’t even know what the finished product is going to look/act like.
Sometimes i wish i was born 40 years earlier so i could enjoy military purchases that had meaning (at their respective times).
Of course they’re in jeopardy. It was pretty stupid of them to go forward this far with these programs when they had no idea of the political futures of the country or the rest of the globe for that matter. The complete stages of RDT&E then followed by LRIP before any actual front-line, combat-ready machine is delivered just takes too damn long nowadays. While UAV tech just speeds right along…
In a way, i almost can’t believe the X-35 is going to exist the way it was envisioned. Save for its massive (in terms) order size, it’d probably be in danger as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lockheed throws everyone a loop and locks the final design with a pilotless option. Don’t laugh, it could happen. It could also happen to the Raptor, as well. In fact, it almost should. It really irks me that they’re having this much trouble bringing in the first truly ‘new’ fighter in a quarter of a century to the fold. In 25 years, we’re finally (maybe) going to get a new fighter. Most airframes have surpassed their services lives by then!
By that same token, they just will not give up on the V-22. Not that i think they should, but they could have cancelled that thing dozens of times for dozens of reasons by now. And yet it still survives. Too revolutionary. Right. Like the Raptor or Commanche won’t be.
And who was it at the time that said they “couldn’t see sending a $2 billion bomber to destroy a $2 million bridge”?
Just tagging a fighter “Xth Gen” doesn’t mean it’s going ot be stealthy. That remains up to the funding and the defense forces’ needs in their respective countries. A number value on a generation remains in-country.
Also, different countries perceive stealth in different ways. Americans see it as an aircraft with either a bunch of angles or a bunch of curves and the plane doens’t look like it should fly. Most Europeans at this point see it as a normal looking aircraft, but with a bunch of nodes sticking off of it. It’s passive versus active stealth. The F-117/B-2/F-22 practice passive while the Typhoon/Rafale practice active.
Do you mean true arcade game? Or a game that came out for consoles? Or even just for consoles?
I just ask because my fave arcade game was Disks of Tron. But my fave console game is Tecmo Super Bowl (or Snake Ratle n Roll). Depends on how you’re looking at it.

I bet most people here had/have a binder/notebook of their work through the years. I don’t have a scanner so i can’t post mine here but would. Midway through my designing years, (when i was younger and more influenced) i drew up what i thought would be an even more stealthy B-1 design where it would keep the two dual engine pods but integrate them into the top of the body essentially burying the intakes into the blended-body LERXes the plane has. I actually submitted the design to Rockwell! Oh, well….
Pros and cons. What’s the point with camoflauging planes? Is it to be assumed that they are always going to be seen from the top? I personally don’t see how effective the Israeli colors can be; where in their country (or others to be more poignant) are there landmarks that look like that? But on the other hand, what’s the point coloring every aircraft low-viz grey? Surely not every one is intended to meet on eye-level terms either? I remember the 70s-80s style the Brits put on the Nimrods; that ‘pink’ that was matched to the concrete pads they sat on with sky blue undersides. I believe they’re still used, but now it’s overall ‘pink’? I was always a little amused by those; it’s almost like they expected them to be bombed!
