But the cocpit layout is looks kind of sloppy, agree?

probably because of the HUD looking much bulkier than their European and American equivelents, and a bit of empty space due to the bigger “dash board” of the Flanker.

Because of MKI has large cockpit, then put in all those useless analogs backup does not mean nice. I rather like to see the plane developed into full use of automated larger MFDS which you can integrate pieces of analog information/flight parameters onto 1 page of MFDS, which you can have many pages to work with.
In the case of large scale power failure, those analogs will probably fail since they also using power/electricity to be function.

hmm that reminds me of the Su-35UB’s cockpit that uses larger MFDs in the front..

    about algeria:
its gdp is about $85 billion … the gdp per capita is about $2,5k ($5k in ppp)…
unemployment is about 22% !!! (2x the unemployement rate of neighbour countries), inflation rate is about 4,5%…
hydrocarbures account for roughly 60% of budget revenues, 30% of gdp, and over 95% of export…

    😉

its both true… PPP is $7000, but the population below poverty line is also high., that’s because the wealth gap between classes is huge

China’s Jh-7s wheren’t spotted till years after they became operational. You’re right about ACIG it does specialize but Tom Cooper’s reliability to me went down from the moment he started covering Pakistan – the garbage he churned out made me suspicious of how good he was at what he’s been doing with Iran. In any case a “secret” project or buy would remain just that – no loose lips and specially not old sources from the Shah’s airforce era.. and just for stretching it a bit 🙂 imagine a hidden airbase located under a mountain or something similar..

just curious, what did he say about Pakistan? in any case i think its fair to say, one may be an expert in one area, but be an amatuer in another.. Personally I’m only interested in their Iran stuff, but for other air forces, look elsewhere.

Cheers! Iran follows a policy of secrecy similar to China’s unlike the US. It is hard to find out what kind of inventory they have. IMHO its not known how many MiGs where upgraded or if they where upgraded at all or what exactly is irans inventory. but here is globalsecurity’s list:

    http://www.globalsecurity.org/milit…e-equipment.htm

the URL isn’t a full URL, and global security isn’t the greatest source on Iran’s equipment. Air Combat Information Group has more up to date information and seems to specialize on Iran as they’ve written several books on the subject.

As for secretive.. up to an extent.. for both Iran and China. There is no shortage of enthusiasts and plane spotters in both countries, and eventually, pics of J-10s, FC-1s, new ships, KJ-2000, etc are eventually shown on the internet. Likewise Iran’s MiG-29s, recent F-14 pictures with Phoenix, Su-24s, J-7, Mirage F1, Zolfaqar, Shafaq, etc have all been shown and available on the internet. exact numbers, types of upgrades done domestically, and operationability may be harder to guess, but something like a totally new type would be easier to spot and known by now.

According to PM its the F-35 mockup. It wouldn’t make sense to bring a testbed to a airshow

er, that’s what i just said

    Or this

that one is from an X-35 mock up, which the production version MIGHT use,

but the cockpit used in the test ones is this one..

on the subject of analogue dials in the cockpit.. so if they do keep some for back up, which dials are kept for emergency since obviously there are many different ones monitoring differnet stuff

example, the F-2 having some despite having 3 mfds

Has anyone considered that Iran is Chinas main energy source, and in todays china, energy is everything. What makes you guys think that china will just allow the US to stifle its economy on the pretext of non-ploriferation, anti-terrorism, whatever?

I think if the US is serious about going after Iran then it may find that when it does go in it would be facing more than the Iranian defence force… Energy is the one resource the Chinese can not give away, yet everyone seems to be ignoring this.

Iran is the main energy, or a major energy source for alot of countries, not just China.. but also of that of Japan and some Western European countries too.

Next you’ll be dragging out the photoshops of Iranian Tu-22M3! Iran has absolutely no MiG-31s in their inventory. The same goes for any opertional S-300 system. None of those appear on any threat list for the region. There is a good reason for that as none of them exist in Iranian operational service.

Stop living in a dream world! For the Iranians to operate such systems they have to train and operate them as part of their integrated defence system. And neither do they have operational MiG-25 courtesy of the Iraqis. Yet another rumour some individuals believe. It was exactly the same pre-Allied Force with fantasy claims of what the Serbs possessed.

exactly, Even that link (which is a link to a forum, not an article), had replies where people questioned the reliability of that report! Some proof. And yes, there are many armchair generals who continue their wishful thinking despite the obvious. Heck one can even take a look at this thread:
    http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5854
which is not from one or two years ago, but nearly SIX years ago on Iran and the MiG-31.. which still has yet to surface today. The only difference is, most of the people in that thread have already moved on.

Also, MiG-31s.. rumors are rife that the iranians have a new “mystery” plane. Whether it is the MiG-31, F-8II, J-10, Su-27 or whatever it is there is a mystery plane (or so I believe). Thus I am assuming it to be the MiG-31 to account for the mystery plane… Mr. Berlusconi thinks otherwise but a new plane with new radar and BVR missiles as well as data linking would bring definitely have an impact for Iran..

rumors are just that. rumors.. and in the case of the MiG-31 and Su-27.. that rumor has been going on for at least 5-6 years now, and nothing has happened. you can throw any so and so weapon in a fantasy scenario and it’d naturally be an advantage.

geez man, why does everyone like to associate MiG-31 with Iran. It doesn’t exist and they’ve shown no interest period. Why bother with it when they already have established facilities specifically designed to maintain their F-14 fleet as well as massive money invested in being able to reverse engineer any components of the F-14. Buying the MiG-31 would be a step backwards in terms of operationability (is that even a word) unless the Russians are willing to throw in license production and other things which they probably won’t

With many F-14D’s being retired and with many flight hours left. Would the venerable Tomcat be a good short-term replacement for the RAAF’s F-111 Fleet? At least until the arrival of the F-35 or possibly FB-22!

it’d be cool to see the Tomcat with the Aussie insignia, but can it do the role of the F-111 in terms of carrying its ordinance?
