both are indeed are now currently underway as we speaks twin engine j-10 or now called Super J-10 and more impoved JH-7A add more strength to the underside air frame and of course arresting hooks install.

couldn’t help but comment on this latest discussion because it’s very interesting.

I like Scramble.. both the egg and the site.. but according to the latter, it seems that all of Turkey’s F-5s are stationed at Konya.. (or NF-5s in their designation system).. and they are all As and Bs.
    http://www.scramble.nl/tr.htm

As for the Derby.. I’m with Crob on this one..
the weight is what I’m looking at..

    the AIM-120A is 335.2lb ( 152.05 kg )
the Mica is 242.5 lb (110 kg)
the Derby is 260 lb (118 kg)

it is significantly lighter than the AMRAAM, and more on par with the MICA. I just have a hard time believing a lighter missile has the range of the heavier AMRAAM.

Ex-iraqi, now iranian Fencers. Status unknow.

Iran also got some additional Fencers from Russia. From what I read, they were quite pleased with the performance of the Fencers.

Uzbekistan used the Su-24s in the late 90s over Kyrgyzstan, which caused quite a controversey as some civilians got killed during an attempt to flush out terrorists.

What about the F-20 Tigershark, its pretty much a pound for pound equal to the JF-17, is already designed and tested, would be cheap as chips and wouldnt need a huge upgrade for operators of the F-5

why? the F-16 already exists. Re introducing the F-20, re modernizing it to today’s standards and recreating the assembly lines will end up making the aircraft more expensive than used F-16s, to which large supply chains already exist. Keep in mind, the F-20 and F-5 are two different aircraft.

While the F-20 is certainly a great plane and a great what if.. it’s dead and will stay dead.

Did it kinda fizzle out did it.. i heard it was going to be this grand coalition stretching from the persian gulf to the pacific.. dont know what became of it… but i would like to know what happened to the Iranian and Indian bids for membership

The Shanghai cooperation organization was intended to solve common terrorism related issues (Islamic extremism), and later expanded to include several economic issues and to an extent, balance out US influence. However it was never intended for some kind of military aid should a member come under attack, and there are alot of conflicting interests, especially between Russia and China who both want influence over Central Asia.

Iran was never a member..but them, along with Mongolia, India and Pakistan are observers. But only India and Pakistan have been pushed.

Last time i checked, Iran was either a member or becoming a member of the Shanghai pact. Kind of a Sino/Russian ( and Indian methinks) NATO. If this is true then any war would draw the intervention of Russia and China because it would be too much a loss of face for a country, especially China, with superpower ambitions to not honor a treaty when a member country is attacked. What position of leadership would that leave China in. Also, lets not play dumb and think that if Iran did join up that China and Russia didnt know that a Persian/US war wasnt a major possibility

    Bluff or Full house?

No they are not. No Iran, No India, No Pakistan. It’s only Russia, China and the Central Asian states. It’s also nothing like NATO or any other kind of defense treaty either.

how would I bring down a B-2? simple. Offer 100 mil and 10 virgins to any B-2 pilot willing to defect. You not only bring down a B-2, you might be able to keep it or sell it to the Russkis too 😉

Really, the T/A-50 would be a ideal choice for many third world countries! I just don’t understand why South Korea isn’t selling them by the hundreds……… 🙁

probably because the market is too saturated with used F-16s and cheap Russian aircraft that makes a new and unproven product unappealing, even though it does have potential. The same goes for export prospects for LCA and JF-17 (outside of Pakistan). Although the latter has some prospects in the form of African nations.

The J-10 is more important for China but the JF-17 is more important for Pakistan.

The JF-17 was designed to be built in Pakistan will full transfer of technology. This was one of the reasons why the airframe was metal alloy and not composite. It had to fit in with the Pakistani cost structure and current industrial base.

Even before the fourth prototype has flown, Pakistan has already awarded contracts for the production line.

so basically, China was unwilling to offer a full transfer of the J-10’s technology?

    here’s a noobish question.

Why the JF-17? Why didn’t either Pakistan sought after or China offer the J-10 instead? money from the R&D from the JF-17 could’ve went into the more important J-10, and Pakistan would’ve had a more capable fighter.
