Raymond Baxter and V2s
I clearly remember a comment he made about one particular raid he was on, where a V2 launched just ahead of him and his wingman. The latter got a few rounds off, to no obvious effect. Raymond described it as the ‘only occasion on which an airborne ballistic missile was engaged by a conventional fighter’. Still true, or surpassed my new technology?
VC10 tail, Vanguard from the wings forward, fit the Vanguards tailplane as canards at the front. Add fly-by-wire, you could probably make it fly :p
single engined piston aircraft are banned from flying over London(
Generally true for some time but I’m sure that there have been Spitfire and Hurricane flypasts since that rule was introduced.
On another topic, I came across a Notam for 1st June about a ‘display and stores drop’ by a Spitfire near Storrington, West Sussex. Anyone know what’s being dropped?
Who are the other, up & coming, superstars of the future??
Yak 11 Fan 😀
what other aircraft was he responsible for?
Google the XF-11 reconnaisance aircraft. Quite an interesting aircraft, and one in which he nearly died.

It was a good weekend for flying – I went to the Aerofair at North Weald on Saturday, flew in in an Aztec, thanks to a generous offer by the owner 🙂
Moderately bumpy, but excellent vis. Picture shows active 02 across the middle, show area above and parking below.
there will be many more where those came from
There won’t be another one quite like it! No more reasons for doubt – nobody else was there, and you have become, without argument, a pilot. Congratulations!
The thing I remember most about my first solo was falling into a common C152 trap – putting on the parking brake at the hold with the nosewheel turned to one side – you have to get out and straighten it by hand! A blunder brought on by nerves, but never mind – still a magical moment impossible to repeat. 🙂
The bottom of that loop almost looks like it bounced! I’m surprised he didn’t pull the wings off. Must be built like a T-34 🙂
I have version 6.0. I usually resize the picture to 800×600, then from the ‘file’ menu, select ‘save for web’. This brings up several preview panes, each of differing quality, with the size the picture would be indicated. Just select the one closest to what you want, then fine tune by changing the ‘quality’ value at top right.
You can drag the picture around inside each frame with the hand tool to see what effect the quality has.
Once your happy OK it and you will get a file save dialogue box.
Hope this helps.
Not all bad
The South Coast was clear of the clag that affected many parts yesterday, and gave me a chance for my first ‘Lunch at Le Touquet” experience, courtesy of Graham Potts who had some spare seats in his Arrow. I was first to get my hand up! 🙂
Lots of pictures here for anyone who wants to see:
According to this link, there’s 3 left:

I remember seeing some olds pics of the Willow Grove one, I think it used to operate from the Prinz Eugen.
Bugatti 100 – definitely in the ‘wings of the weird and wonderful’ class, but a beauty none the less – shame it never got the chance to fly

Certainly not, Being a VFR pilot I would, of course, have stayed on the ground if it was IMC
Of course, I thought I’d seen you had the rating somewhere.
Beautful stuff!
Couple of questions. Was the soup thick enough to be IMC? You mentioned being able to see lakes etc. through it. Also, do you normally make a radio call just after you ‘pop up’ from your strip?
