    Last Rally Update

I have the last update for you.

There are only 5 days left until the rally!
I hope you are all ready for the competitions.

We are ready, the only thing that can challenge us is the weather and we have already planned for that.

Don’t forget anything, especially your passports and if in an N Reg aircraft, your relevant documents for the French.

There is still time to enter, we will accept your entry up to 26th May (that is only 3 days left), however if you have left it this late, we cannot guarantee the hotel accommodation will be in the Pomme d’Or.

Don’t forget we have the 2 packages, the full one with the accommodation and the basic, covering the rally competitions and key meals (with the basic package, you must arrange your own accommodation).
Please read all the previous postings for further information and visit the club’s website: http://www.jerseyaeroclub.com

The programme is posted on the Aero Club’s website for those who want to possibly come, but still not signed up. http://www.jerseyaeroclub.com/content/view/250/158/

If you need more information, read my previous posts, most information is there; otherwise ask me either on this forum or PM.

    See you there!;)

There is still time to enter, we will accept your entry up to 26th May, however if you leave it this late, we cannot guarantee the hotel accommodation will be in the Pomme d’Or.

    Essential Documents

    Hello Everyone,

A quick reminder for some of you.

I now have an Indonesian wife, and it crossed my mind the problems I have with visas.

If any of you are going to have a crew member from outside the EU, check to see if they need a Schengen visa for the landing in Lessay; these can take over 6 weeks to arrange. It took over 2 months for me to get a 4 day visa, single entry, for Belgium, same price as 6 months unlimited entry.

Jersey takes UK visas, without problem.

Just a thought, but it is better to be prepared.

Brits think we are Europeans, when we pop over, but we did not sign up for the Schengen agreement and if we have other nationalities in tow from outside the EU, we need to go through the best bureaucracy Brussels can throw at us.

    Don’t forget your passports!

Also don’t forget the 28th April cut off date for guaranteed Pomme d’Or Hotel rooms.

    Book now

    Bye for now

I bet it took a while to find Fred & Florence as qualified witnesses.

Also with their names, I am picturing people around retirement age, don’t think they would be talking in metres.

    Glad all OK

    Hotel Info

    Hello Everyone,

    A quick update for you.

If you are thinking of coming to the rally, but not yet signed up for it, please do so now.

We have a number of rooms on hold at the Pomme d’Or hotel, but they will be released for general sale on 28th April.

If you want to come and stay at one of the top hotels in Jersey, book your place on the Rally before the 28th, otherwise we cannot guarantee a place at the ‘Pomme’.
The Pomme d’Or is the venue for the Friday night and Saturday night dinners.

If you book after the 28th we will do our utmost to get you into the hotel, but cannot guarantee it.

If we cannot get you into the ‘Pomme’ we will try to get you into another hotel, of similar quality.

To prevent all these problems, book today.

    Competition Info

    Hello Everyone,

I hope this latest lot of bad weather hasn’t caused you too much trouble.

Where I am, it has rained heavily in the afternoon for the last 7 days, but it is a pleasant change from the usual sweltering 35˚C+ 

I have been told I can inform you about the competitions:

There are, hang on while I count on my fingers & toes, 14 trophies to be won, the first six are the main competitions that make up the seventh, the Grand Prix.

1, The overhead arrival at Lessay.
You will be assigned a time to arrive overhead, closest to your requested arrival time.
You will have points deducted for every second you are out from the scheduled arrival time.
    2, The timed circuit.
As you arrive you will immediately start to fly a 5 minute timed circuit, stopping the watch when your wheels touch the ground on a touch and go.
Points will be deducted as competition 1
    3, Spot landing competition.
On the climb out from the timed circuit, you will enter a shorter circuit to culminate in the spot landing; then taxi to the parking area.

You will have 1 hour on the ground at Lessay, during this time you will receive clues and prepare your navigation for the treasure hunt.
(A word of advice, bring a NW France chart, a ruler, a protractor and maybe a whiz wheel)

    4, The Aerial Treasure Hunt.
You will depart from Lessay one hour after landing and the clues given for the Treasure Hunt. After the last waypoint you will fly onwards towards La Roque in Jersey.
(Your departure time will be recorded)
5, Timed arrival at La Roque.
We will calculate the time for you to fly the course and onwards to Jersey, based on the TAS that you supply to us.
Points will be deducted as competition 1
6, The Safety & Airmanship competition.
Upon arrival at the club you will be judged for safety practise and handed a written competition testing your knowledge.
(I can tell you to make sure you have information about all the airfields the rally visits this year)

7, The Grand Prix is awarded to the highest cumulative score of the first 6 competitions.

    8, Concourse d’elegance.
If you think your aircraft will be the prettiest in the rally, enter it when you arrive and our judges will make a fair assessment of your pride and joy.
9, Longest distance flown to get to the rally.
If you want to enter this competition, tell us upon your arrival and we will judge your distance from your submitted Plogs and Flight Plans. Valid legs start at 05.00UTC on Thursday.
One year we had a winner that came from the South of England, but went to the far North of Scotland before turning around & coming back!
    10, Surprise competition.
This is a fun competition on the Saturday, It can be anything from fishing for plastic fish, to a car treasure hunt around the island. Even I don’t know yet.
    11, Inter Club competition.
This is a prize awarded to the highest scoring, in competitions 1 – 6, team entered.
A team is 3 aircraft or more.
    12, Best First Time Entrant.
All people who attend the rally for the first time are entered into this sub competition; the winner will be the highest scoring, in competitions 1 – 6, ‘first timer’.
13, Best Competitor in a twin engined aircraft.
The competitors that do the best, in competitions 1 – 6, whilst flying a twin engined aircraft will win this prize.
    14, Best low hour crew.
The crew that scores the highest points in competitions 1 – 6 but has a cumulative total hours figure of under 250 hours for all licence holders will win this trophy.
A competition for the newer and less frequent pilots amongst us.

I will post more information as I get it.

    Happy Landings

    Quick Update

    Hello Everyone,

    A quick update.

I have been asked to inform all the people who cannot make up their minds and do not want to commit yet ( I know a lot of ladies reading will be nodding their heads knowingly) that we will accept entries to the rally up to 1 week before the rally itself.

Unfortunately, if you leave it this late, we cannot guarantee the hotel even though we will help you and try to get the accommodation you require.

So, to avoid disappointment, sign up sooner rather than later.

    Bye for now.
