They might be, I couldn’t really tell as I got roped in at the other end, swinging the prop!
I think they were en-route to N. Ireland, perhaps for last weekend’s Portrush airshow?
Thanks Crazy Mainer,
Interestingly the Demoiselle replica Blue Max and I are talking about isn’t shown on the museum’s website.
I suspect that the one in front of the Tacoma-Tokyo biplane is one of Robert Baslee’s ‘Dream Classic’ ultralights. See picture below, with a pic from Old Rhinebeck’s website of their 1909 Demoiselle replica for comparison.
The Dream Classic may not be a perfect replica but it looks like fun. Anyone fancy a go at building one?
Wow didn’t realise there was any FE-8’s still around, even if it is a replica. Looks like an interesting place, would be nice to go stateside sometime.
This is the caption and picture off the museum’s website:
This F.E.8 was built in California by Jack Gardiner and Robert Sebring. Gardiner then made an epic flight in it to Owls Head in 1980, taking 32 days. On arrival he donated the plane to the Museum.
It has a flat-six Continental engine instead of the rotary too, but after that flight, no wonder he donated it rather than try to take it back home!
Was it just training for currency, or will we see and hear the beast at work again shortly. Sure hope so!
Dan, as with so many on this forum we have never met, but it doesn’t stop news of the tragedy affecting all who’ve heard it. I just hope our condolences and thoughts will help support you in some small way.
Three hours to go – still no bids (unsurprisingly!)
Its all wrong. The aircraft are too clean and the props are not shown as full disks. The noise is just not right.
Credit where credit’s due I guess. The basic images look pretty impressive and the clouds and shadows are really well done. As far as the sound effects go, I suspect that in Japan, Mr. Tochy has never heard a Merlin for real. For that matter, how many of us can remember what a Mosquito would sound like at cruise power.
Of course, I suspect that Toochy is working on his own. For film/TV work, budgets need to accommodate teams of people doing this. To see how the professionals (on a budget of $1 million or so an hour of footage) do it, take a look at http://www.redvision.co.uk !
Didn’t realise there were two Flybabys done up like Junkers C1s!
Not only that, they’re complete with radio-controlled dummy gunners in the back cockpits!
By the way GASML, did you notice the 4 bladder on the antoinette? on a continental A65 by the looks of it!
Not only that, check out the Baslee Demoiselle replica lower down. Big enough for a full size person to fly, light enough to qualify as a microlight……..hmmmm……..
Stunning cgi, just shows what can be done.
How do we tell him that fine pitch prop, radial engine audio effects don’t quite work with Merlins – can anyone translate the comments back to Japanese for MR Tochy’s benefit?
My god, they must have got at that curry I had last night
Aaaaaagh!
BUFF= “Big Ugly Fat Fellow”, right ?
Nicely diplomatic!!
Good thread this, for a misty Monday!
Regarding Fat Albert, the only one I’ve ever heard of is the US Navy Blue Angels C130 support aircraft, which usually opens their shows with a rocket assisted takeoff.
An old family friend who instructed on Vampire T11s in the 1950s always referred to them as “Kiddycars” – which was the brand name of a type of fairground dodgem at the time.
Anyone who trained on the side-by-side Slingsby gliders might remember calling T-21s ‘Barges’ or Slingsby Capstans ‘Wardrobes’?
Hi GASML,
Its a Antoinette its located in the maintance hanger at this time for a long term rebuild.
Cheers
RER
Thanks – looks like I’ve got another must-visit place on my next trip Stateside!
Contain your patience until we’ve got something that looks more like an aeroplane, TT!
At the moment its still spreading itself ever more thinly across dexion shelves!
….and in order to eat, Bod has numerous Tiger, Stearman, Harvard and Cub-shaped distractions………
Oh alright then, here are some ‘work in progress’ piccies, including Blue Max getting up close and dirty with a gipsy!
………..(10.1 variety!!)
Cheek – but dead right.
I love that Hisso engined SE-5 !
Is the first image an Antoinette or a Hanriot?
