Yep – try Soldier of Fortune- UK based, on the web – they will kit you out with wartime army or RAF battledress for about £100- they do a complete soldier kit inc tin hat and webbing for about £150….i used to hire the kit, better off buying, you’ll always get your money back and have it in the wardrobe if you need it – must make sure in a sealed suit fold with anti-moth stuff tho…

Otherwise try charity shops for a demob suit – they are about!

    TT

Was that the suit you were wearing at the last FOSA meeting then?

    Flight schools in California

One that I can recommend from limited personal experience (I grabbed a flying hour or three during a holiday) is Del Monte Flight School at Monterey airport about an hour South of San Francisco.

It’s an authorised Cessna flight school, which means nearly new aeroplanes. It’s friendly and has excellent instructors, many ex-US Navy. Great flying down the coast and Monterey’s a pretty cool place post-flight too!

The only downsides are, like most West Coast schools and unlike Florida, the school is FAA only, with no JAR or CAA approvals, which could be tricky if you’re wanting to log time for a British PPL. Also in July, watch ou for the notorious Bay Area fogs!

Don’t forget to check the latest homeland security rules on registering foreign pilots too.

    Happy landings!

Actually four of us got the air under our feet at the Bicester VAC event. David Allison was the hero for airing the Gemini while the visibility was still tight, then as the weather improved Arthur Mason and I got some ‘bracing’ flying in the Peitenpol and Luton Minor respectively – which prompted Barry Plumb to rush back to Hinton and fly his Plumb Biplane in.

Yes, it was bleeding cold in an open cockpit. But not as cold as this Sunday!!

There are some nice piccies on Windrushers website (they now run the airfield) http://www.windrushers.org.uk/snowballrally.htm
