    Neil, Colin and all.

Many, many thanks and big respect 😉 for a cracking good day.

Good to meet so many forumites, although I didn’t read this thread in advance and hence missed the gathering at the Pembroke!

Sorry I didn’t get to meet with Albert, nice piccie of the Luton though!! 😀

See you all next year I hope, if not before!!

Now we’ve lowered the tone sufficiently, we found this “ballast” in one of the lower wings of the BE-2 replica.

It seems some squirrels had been nesting there for some time.

Reminds me of the joke, “what has a hazelnut in every bite”. The answer certainly isn’t a Topic bar! 😀

For years, they have charged £10.00 per car for admission to the park and only additional charges for admission to the house. When did this change?

I think that this changed last year. It appears that the new Lord Tavistock’s managment team now insist all visitors buy a ticket which includes admission to Woburn House as well as the grounds, even though they know few will visit.

At the end of the day – it’s their house. But I feel desparately sorry for Stuart McKay and his fellow DH Moth club volunteers who’ve created a unique event, only for it to be stuffed by another lot of “management consultants”.

….as I’d got Fenland loaded into the GPS I went up there yesterday and despite the wind being nearly down 26 it was 20kts gusting 28kts which made for a series of “adjustments” on short finals so you weren’t alone in that respect.

Crikey. My stalling speed’s 29 knots so I’d have needed more than adjustments!! 😮

Just thought I’d share a pic of this Luton Minor. It was taken at Walney Island on July 16th 2005.[/IMG]

Nice to see G-ATFW active. This used to be the only Minor (to my knowledge) to fly with a three-bladed prop. Picture below with thanks to Rob Whitton. Anyone know any more about that prop?

I don’t imagine we will hear much from ASML for a day or two. He is probably lying down in a darkened room, waiting for his ears to stop ringing!

Edit that; He must be better, since he wandered over Chesham this afternoon, like a slightly disorientated bee.

Correct on both counts! Ears still buzzing!! As a previous Luton owner Propstrike clearly appreciates the joys of four stub exhausts ending less than a foot away from the cockpit!

Actually although the viz was pretty awful on Saturday, it cleared just as I was thinking about turning back. I could even find Fenland first go!!

Yesterday’s sortie to Popham was possibly more challenging. A gusty crosswind over the clubhouse was making the approach to 26 even more ‘sporting’ than usual. I thought my landing effort – like a one-armed wallpaper hanger – was pretty shameful – then I realised that Cessna and Warrior pilots were doing it too!

Still there was one compensation, after bumbling back via Chesham, (yes I know it’s the long way round) I discovered I could ridge soar the Luton on the updraft from the Western edge of the Chilterns!

Thanks for the pic John – sorry I couldn’t keep up, but I did still make it to Fenland within 30 minutes of your arrival! 😀

Fit an ADF (FNL – 401) then – worked every time for me! 😉

    Andy

Yes, but I’d have to pedal even harder to keep the dynamo going!

    😀

11 OTU with Bristol Blenheims and 17 OTU with Wellingtons were based there during 1943 and 1944 respectively. I don’t know about later.

Most of the wartime buildings are of course now long-gone, although the Watch Tower remains, hidden just inside the track betwn Abbey and Bridge corners. It is still used as admin offices by the BRDC who runs the circuit.

Aiming to try, if weather – and my ability to find Fenland – allows!

So let’s get this straight. That Fokker was a Messerschmitt? Sounds like an old joke to me! :diablo:

A few more recent ones of G-ANFM………

The close-in shot is Len Mitton, getting John Coker a little worried during a bit of Diamond Nine practice. Like me, John’s idea of formation is same day, same county, same direction….

No. 2, proof you can fly a Moth in January! Bleedin freezin!!

Number 3 is various DH types, sheltering from the thunderstorms at Upavon, during last year’s DH Moth tour.

The final one – haven’t clue where I dug it up from, but a Moth deck landing?

Many thanks for the information. The Singapore 111 prop is 12ft6ins. The prop boss’s are around 2ft.

I take it you’re going to lengthen the Luton Minor’s undercarriage legs then!! 😀
