..apparently the brand of aircraft covering that starts with “St” & ends with “its” doesn’t get past the censor on here…
Should have just said “polyfibre” 😉
Delta Aviation do pleasure flights in Tiger Moths and (apparently now a deHavilland Rapide). IIRC they are Sywell based but don’t quote me on that.
Delta operate the Tiger Moths from 17 different locations around the UK, and this year too are offering DH Dragon Rapide flights out of Oxford and Aerobatic Experiences in CAP10s from Sywell. Busy chaps!!

I don’t know anything about the condition of ‘TCJ but at first sight it appears to be a bargain. Where else could you buy an airworthy vintage aeroplane for less than some people pay for cockpit sections :diablo:
Latest news on the Luton website throws light on yet more far-flung Minors including one in Wagga-Wagga NSW (honest!). http://www.lutonminor.com
Also how about this for a high-altitude Minor? Gordon Fryer crossing the Rockies behind a 36-horsepower JAP engine!! And the three grand one has a stunning 50 horsepower!!
Apparently the CAP10s are being exclusively provided to Delta by Avions Aerobatic Ltd and the London Aerobatic Company.
Anyone fancy a go in a real French classic?
I guess someone on this site’ll recognise their photographic skills too! :dev2:
According to their website: http://www.deltaaviation.co.uk/experiences/pleasureflights/pleasure_flight_buy.htm
£99 to you guv. Or £189 if you take the missus!
Delta seem to be (forgive the pun) spreading their wings this year, as well as operating half a dozen Tiger Moths and the Rapide flights, they’re also offering aerobatic experiences in CAP10s out of Sywell!
MODERN! 😡
Well I suppose compared to some it’s modern 😉
Moggy
I take it, it’s yours on the right! 😀
Crikey! Ollie could be worth a fortune! :diablo:
A registration calculated to frustrate a few civvy Hunter owners!
With thanks to David Wise of Air Britain, who’s just forwarded me stacks of PFA archive information for the Luton Minor website. The following is from the information Alf Knowles gave to the PFA when he gave them the right to Phoenix Aviation’s plans. It augments the old exercise book which was the original PFA Project register!
1234****G-AVON**6/65**G.Mee**Loughborough, Leics.
G-INFO gives the date of first registration as 6/6/1967, presumably when it first became airworthy. It was deregistered in 1991, along with all other British LA-5 Majors when the PFA withdrew their permits following the wing failure of an aeroplane in flight.
I suspect that neither the PFA nor BMAA would look too kindly on the design.
American ultra-lights rarely come close to the the standards required by our regulators, so I’d check that out before committing.
(Alternatively, you could try a Luton Minor, it’s just like an Affordaplane with a real fuselage!
😀
Looks like heaven. Not a single silly county council planning officer in sight!
Blackburn Lincock G-EBVO. Flew in the Kings Cup Air Race (1928?). Was in storage at British Airspace, Brough but clearly not there now!
Cor wouldn’t that make a nice ‘return to flight’ project!
Neil Williams – a bit more than ‘a few years ago’ – 1970s!
You remember the beginning correctly – but then, flying inverted, he brought the Zlinn in and rolled upright to land on grass… Somewhere there photo proof of his being absolutely on thebutton on the approach as the wingtip left a furrow in the grass as he brought the aircraft upright to land…
Covered, IIRC in his book ‘Aerobatics’. One of those truth is stranger than fiction stories.
Cheers
James
Neil Williams in the aformentioned Zlin, presumably before the mainspar went crack! (Picture from Blue Max’s archive – well that big box of piccies in the corner of the workshop!).
Since the website http://www.lutonminor.com went online last week, its gone completely bonkers, with over 100 e-mails being received from owners as far afield as Australia and the USA! I’ll include some of the input in latest news as soon as I have time.
There’s been a lot of interest shown in a Luton gathering. Its early days yet, but we might get a few together sometime this summer! I think the last time there was a group shot it was this, at Sywell in 1977!
The VAC are keen to support the Luton celebration at their Vintage & Classic day in September… Just hope AVDC will play ball…
Thanks Gary. It would certainly be a great location. Look forward to the next installment of nimby planners versus common sense! :diablo:
