I too agree that the Gripen may be more suited to Romania’s needs..if the price is right that is..its upto Saab to screw it up by offering C/Ds or NGs at high prices and losing the deal like it did in Austria..

I hope Japan goes ahead and develops the F-X fighter..looks very cool ! one would think that given how advanced they are technologically, this should be achievable for them..

Well you have finally provided a source, thats a start at least. However the ridiculous way in which you dramatise and exagerate in order to engage in this discussion is still a demonstration of your weakness in this area. This is a subtle exercise, something you clearly do not understand.

I never said that the source was wrong, simply that it has to be taken in context and considered
    .

what a pompous man you are !! instead of admitting that you were wrong here, and that the news item was correct, you tell me that I dramatise and exaggerate ? a demonstration of my weakness in this area indeed ! 😀

go back to the first post that I make on this topic. i just mentioned that the RAAF was looking at a follow on purchase and you came up with your lame ass wisecrack on how smoke machines could generate smoke..and after that how AW&ST has been wrong and “source analysis” bullcrap.. heck, even the Australian govt in one its own defence press releases had quoted AW&ST so I guess your theory of “source analysis” did’nt get through to them either !

and whats this bullcrap about the source not being wrong but having to be taken in context and considered ?? they say that the Aussies are looking at follow-on purchases and I quote that so what do I need to take into context and consider here ??

what you’re doing is using semantics to hide behind when you’re clearly proven wrong.

You just dont get source analysis do you? I am amazed at how lost you are with this! The fact that you make such stupid comments as……

on the other hand, you are obviously one of those who will never quote any article from a respected journal..I hope you continue with that and dont post anything related to what a journal published. common sense indeed !

……just goes to show how little understanding you have of this. Sure read the article, but then read others, compare and contrast. If only one article appears in one journal then be very cautious. You are trying to make this into absolutes, which it clearly is not.

man, go pedantic with someone else, maybe your kid or someone..”source analysis” ! what BS ! you’ll only believe something if you read it in 2-3 different newspapers or journals is it ? your magnificient understanding of “source analysis” means that basically people concoct stuff and unless the news has been picked up by every other bloody magazine or journal on earth, its false. sometimes one has to give more credence to what a respected journal says as compared to BS that a whole bunch of lesser mags quote.

anyway, here you go, another source that says the same thing.

    Australian Defence News

Washington and Canberra are buzzing with talk (and subsequent media reports) about Australian interest in purchasing a second tranche of F/A-18F ‘Super Hornet’ fighters, as a follow-on from the 6 March decision to acquire 24 aircraft under project Air 5349, for delivery from 2010. It is said the second batch of Fs is likely to also include at least six ‘G’-model (or ‘Growler’) electronic attack aircraft for delivery between 2012-2014. The follow-on ‘Super Hornet’ order appears principally structured as a ‘Kinnaird’ procurement reform option, in case of delays (or a cutting back) of the project Air 5376 (phase 3.2B/C) centre barrel replacement (CBR) programme currently being proposed for the F/A-18A/B ‘Hornet’ fighters, which due to local technical and cost issues, is likely to be wholly shifted to Canada.

Thaliand also has 50 F-16A/B, which won’t be retiring for a while, & a couple of dozen F-5E. This purchase is to start replacing the F-5s.

    oh ! I completely forgot that they were a F-16 operator..thanks Paul.

Russia and India have closed the deal on the 5th gen fighter

Russia and India have closed a deal to jointly develop a fifth-generation fighter plane, a spokesman for the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation said today (18 Oct,2007).

“We have signed an agreement on cooperation in the development and production of an advanced multi-purpose fighter aircraft,” the spokesman said. “This document will allow our countries to implement a project that envisions equal-share financing and engineering efforts in the creation of a fifth-generation fighter.”

A two-day session of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission for military-technical cooperation, led by both countries’ defense ministers, began in Moscow on Wednesday.

I have plenty of perspective and I am shocked at your blind belief in AW&ST, as I have said, sure it is reliable publication but I have already given an example of at least one mistake. That is why you evaluate every source, it is just common sense. I am astonished that you think that just becouse it is published in AW&ST it is true!

I said “there is a real likelihood”. how that means that I have blind belief in what AW&ST prints is beyond me..I do believe that if they printed something, they definitely have heard something on it. its similar to the Indian Navy wanting to purchase follow on MiG-29Ks..if someone said that it was blind belief in some journal because of which I believe that it may happen, I’d be darn surprised..

on the other hand, you are obviously one of those who will never quote any article from a respected journal..I hope you continue with that and dont post anything related to what a journal published. common sense indeed !

thats quite a lot of AEWACs for such a small fleet of fighters..the long drawn out procurement most likely to allow for easier payments.

OMG!!! This is the most basic rule of source analysis! You question the reliability of every piece of information in every article! You dont just assume that becouse something is in a respected publication that it is true!

Anyway was it not AW&ST that published the PSed pictures of China’s supposed 5th gen fighter?

get some perspective man ! you’re comparing pics of some supposed 5th gen Chinese fighter published in AW&ST to them publishing an article that says that there is a real likelihood of a follow-on purchase of Rhinos by RAAF ?? maybe you might as well stop believing anything published in any journal, because once in a while, even the best get it wrong.

Fedaykin, the IAF ACM is on record as having stated that the IAF would reduce fighter types to 3-4 by the end of 2020..the MKI on the heavy end, the MRCA on the medium end and the Tejas on the light end..the PAK-FA will follow on later. The Mirage-2000, MiG-29, Jaguar, MiG-27 and Bison are all due to retire by 2025 when the last of the Tejas and MRCA are delivered.

One of the biggest reasons why the IAF may not want the MiG-35 is that their entire fleet, apart from the Tejas, would then be Russian, and traditionally the IAF has sourced its fleet from different sources and not been completely Russian.

I would hope that this disappointment means that the DGA and Dassault put in their best efforts to get the Indian MRCA deal..they would need to be more flexible in ToT and offer a very competitive price which would surely be lower than the Typhoon..probably closer to the domestic price of the Rafale..around $75 million per unit maybe. and liberal access to all the software and avionics, so as to be able to match up to what Saab and MiG will definitely offer.

if the F-14s can still be re-engined, that would imply that there is still substantial life left in the airframes..sparsely used or is it that the F-14, like the F-15 had the tremendously long Total airframe fatigue life? the F-15 can fly for upto 15,000 hrs, which is almost twice that of a Mirage-2000, which is twice that of the basic Fulcrum, which is almost twice a basic MiG-21..sometimes that would appear to even out the high initial cost..

lovely article on IAF’s Air Marshal Prithi Singh (retd.). The man flew 102 types of aircraft in all, amassing 6500 hours in all..this article has some lovely pics of him evaluating different types for the IAF, including the Buccaneer, Mirage F1, Jaguar, Viggen, MiG-27, etc. as well as some very interesting remarks on the aircraft evaluated.
