My goodness 21Ankush, what patriotic dribble!! Ultimate load tests, and G tests and weaponization!! I couldnt understand what you wrote at all.

He called it patriotic dribble mainly because he never posts anything other than his own opinions..no real information, so if someone questions an opinion of his with facts, since he cant retort/respond to it with any real facts, the only way left for him to save face is to resort to such stuff..

doesnt make sense for me, that some one would carry on attaching all sorts of weapons to a plane before even making sure that the structure can cope with what it is designed to do.

sounds like a snag has developed some where in the wing structural design as one of the previous posts says they have boosted the structure

to reply to your question again, the wing structural limits are known since they were designed keeping to withstand 9 G with a margin of safety of 1.5. however, till the Ultimate Load test is done on a wing, 9G will not be flown..however, the G’s that the Tejas can carry off as of now are sufficient for the weapons testing as it is not going to subject the wing to structural stresses greater than the mandated 6 Gs flown now.

and no snags have developed, so dont rake up this non-issue again.

who has attached what weapons to the Tejas ? its only carrying dummy R-73 rounds now (and earlier R60/AA-8 Aphids)..they have’nt even tested drop tanks on it and you’re talking about “carrying all sorts of weapons”..the IAF mandated that the Tejas’ wing structure needed to be beefed up to be able to carry heavier weapon loads and that caused a revision of its wing structure. But that was thanks to a change in the Requirements from the IAF, not due to a “snag”..the design was suitably beefed up and the R60s disappeared after the TDs and the dummy R73 is now seen.

anyhow, rest easy, its going to happen soon with more production standard Tejas’ joining the flight test program..earlier TDs could not be used for that since they did not have the strengthened wing structure.

So the aircraft can only do 6Gs after so many flights?

so many flights ? only 658 flights and around 380-400 hours total flight testing..it needs to have over 2000 hours to attain IOC..whats wrong with 6Gs as of now anyway ? its not like the Tejas has to pull 9Gs to impress anyone. its structurally capable of doing that, and as the flight envelope is expanded more, it’ll reach that limit too. FYI, the Typhoon too is only limited to 8.1 G AFTER SO MANY FLIGHTS due to a software control limitation but that will be lifted soon.

    http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2007/04/24/213442/eurofighter-typhoon-special-storm-force-training.html

the Limit Load testing has been done for the Tejas which allows for 6G to be flown, but once Ultimate Load testing is done and successfully validates the structure, 9G will be flown. anyway, no hurry for that..there are more pressing things to be tested prior to that- weapons and radar.

by the way, did’nt these Jags go through a comprehensive upgrade program sometime back ? and any idea whats the status of the flying hours left on those airframes ? they could probably look at selling those jets off to some user that does’nt have enough money to buy new airframes..

For the first production LCA flew? Quick question on the previous TDs and PVs … has any of those prototypes flown with any external stores aside from the two dummy aams? I mean, after 658 some odd flights, how much longer till the fbw is fully tested? Or is the lsp-1 supposed to take over that function? How many +/- gs has the LCA been tested up to or is that info not available yet?

as of now, the Tejas TDs and PVs have not yet flown with drop tanks or any other weapons dummies..there was a revision to the wing structure sometime in 2005 to be able to carry more heavy stores- that lead to development effort and a good deal of re-testing. the LSP-1 will obviously help in the certification process, but I dont think that it’ll be the only jet that’ll test the FBW to the full envelope..and as of now the Tejas has been tested for around 5.4Gs only since the Ultimate Load test has not yet been done for it..Limit load test of upto 9G has been done, so that the LCA could be certified to fly upto around 6Gs. apart from that, 23 Deg AoA has been tested so far.

and since its for marking the 75th anniversary of the IAF, they might be the 2 Flankers that were seen at Aero India 2007 with special ’75’ markings on the fins..

funny how this reminds me of how my Biomechanics Professor, Dr Albert King had in a lecture on spinal injuries to pilots during ejection, told us that when he was investigating some USN crashes, he’d recommended that all ejection seat triggers be placed above the head of the pilot, to be pulled down (as was done earlier), so as to bring the spine into a much better posture prior to ejection as compared to the pilot bending down to pull the trigger from between his legs..

some wisecrack had remarked at that time to Dr King that in an emergency, the pilot would’nt forget to first go protect his balls ! 😀 and so that position for the trigger never really changed..

that makes it the sixth Tejas flying..cant wait to see the next Tejas- its going to be the PV-5 Tejas twin-seater.

makes me all the more glad to know that this great jet will soldier on with the IAF for another 30 years at least considering that the new-build DARIN-II Jags are just entering service.
