    Urm…

    A stunning piece of design!

Stick the restoration area in the front, blocking the only access for moving exhibits in and out.

Makes about as much sense as constructing a large concrete building with a fixed glass front that requires the removal of that entire frontage every time you want to change the exhibits around.

Now who’d be daft enough to come up with an idea like that…………..?

    wasn’t it Roger Richards?

Do I remember reading somewhere that Middle Wallop was one of the last remaining pre – war aerodromes with just a large patch of grass rather than the wartime standard triangular strips of tarmac/concrete

I know it’s probably altered in details over the years as a function of it’s AAC use but i thought in essence it was little changed from the 30’s

Back to Kellyยดs Heroes, the scene where Capt. Maitland(?) “liberates” the yacht, he asks himself (in the German version): “Will it fit inside a B17?”

stick it underneath and call it an SB-17G – would anybody notice do you think ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks Bograt and TMN, plenty of building work was taking place, however I ain’t got a clue about what exactly they were doing.

They’re building the next RAFM “Landmark” building – the Cold War triangular thingy – must be large to swallow a complete set of 3 V Bombers, Hastings, Belfast, York, numerous fighters etc etc

and the drone is a bit more than that – actually an experimental WW2 German Enzian missile – can’t remember if it’s surface to air or air to surface but it was based on the Me163 IIRC

John – The Neptune is WX515 which at one stage was going to return to the U.K by air. However that plan fell through so she now languishes. Hopefully she will survive
and find a home in the U.K.

shame she can’t be swapped for the one currently on show at Cosford – an ex RAF example would be far more appropriate

google “Schlangenschwarm” or “JGr10” and you’ll come up with the artwork from some of the Eagle Cals decal sheets for these aircraft produced by Jerry and Judy Crandall – Jerry was responsible for the new (or should that be recreation of the) colour scheme of the Champlin Dora-13

    sure is

represents an aircraft of JGr 10 which was a small weapons testing unit. The red/yellow snake design – which continues forward onto the cowling with an snake’s head with wide open mouth was carried by the so called Schlangenschwarm part of this unit.

cue debate/discussion/poll about whether W1048 should be restored…….

    it’s like Groundhog day………

    I say restore her!

but don’t hold your breath. In the meantime, as others have said, congratulations to all the volunteers responsible – for an important job, impeccably done.

Does anyone out there have experience restoring the old cloth covered wiring looms seen on the old wartime electrical equipment such as wireless sets etc.?

All the modern equivalents I have come across seem to be plastic based. Does anyone know where an authentic fabric source may be found?

    Thanks

Elliott – there is a section in the “Restoring Museum Aircraft” by Robert Mikesh on restoring wiring looms – if you have the original use IIRC microcrystalline wax from 3M to clean and hydrate/nourish (or whatever) the woven fabric sheathing – waxoyl might have the same effect(?)

    Spitfire IX from Airfix

Hannants are showing as a future release – been some discussion on Hyperscale today about it

given the “quality” of the recent Seafire III,which made Classic Airframes kits look mainstream, I wouldn’t hold out any great shakes. Perhaps it will be the new “C” wings from that kit with a new fuselage or (perhaps) a new nose to stick onto the existing VB fuselage. The Spit VIII was an old Otaki mould and was missing the characteristic gull wing effect towards the rear of the fuselage/wing join

Time will tell – but I don’t suggest buying sight unseen

Hyperscale will undoubtedly give you all you need to know in due course.

Pretty sure they were – whilst at Dx in the first couple of weeks of filming – saw them with me own eyes – mind you it was 15 years ago…..
