I have it in mind that the frame of Bluebird owes more to the Forth Rail Bridge than to any jet fighter. Not only that but it is a bit skew-wiff as well so definitely not to aeronautical standards. If you likened it to a plane, I sort of think heavyweight Hurricane skinned in metal. See no problem with discussion here.
No wonder TE184 was in such dire straits then……
Presumably anyone with sufficient funds to purchase the DH9 will also have the wherewithal to fully investigate the provenance of the airframe and if they have any concerns then they can always cross the road and buy a different one at DH9s-r-us.
Logically one has to wonder if the airframe will ultimately end up on an island in the Southern Hemisphere
Andy Saunders… has there been any progress in having the grave of the unknown British airman formally identified as that of Mick Mannock?
For an object lesson in the transitory nature of the internet, you only have to look at the number of useful forum threads on a whole range of subjects which have been decimated at a stroke by the Photobucket debacle.
Perhaps I had better duck down to avoid any snowballs
Thought it went to Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage and Armour Collection in Seattle, Washington State
There’s a rear view of a similar trailer (with a civilian registration) if you google “gunnery training trailer WW2” in use firing on a circular training track, but you have probably seen that one.
Have you asked a similar question on the Trailers, plant and equipment forum over at HMVF.? There are one or two over there who specialise in the restoration of WW2 RAF airfield equipment
My thanks Robin
Bruce in post 2420 you refer to a detailed narrative above by Robin with RAFM comments included. Can you give a post number please.
Thanks -sorry to burden you
Post can be found between 2416 and 2417 – Moggy
To excuse the restoration as being to “third world” standards because of its location is specious. You only need the google the Great Egyptian Museum at Giza to see the intent and what can be achieved.
That restoration is pure technological and museological incompetence. No more, no less
Hi Elliott
You could always try Robert at Dataplates4u
He primarily makes for military vehicle restorations but its the same principle.
He made and stamped a lovely plate for my 10cwt GS trailer restoration. I could even use the original mounting holes

Absolutely unbelievable.
I trust everybody associated with its recovery, for all their fine words, are happy with the final outcome………
Hi Elliott
How’s the centre section progressing and have you sourced a rear turret for rebuild yet?
Don’t discount the historic military vehicle market either, particularly as the pool of vehicles that are “easy” restorations has virtually dried up. Might be worthwhile posting a similar message on HMVF
