Because someone must be using it and it must be making money,if it isn’t i daresay the bean counters will move it somewhere else.
By that argument you might as well put a burger van under every wing – and see if people buy something from them – it’s an aircraft museum not a food mall. Cafe facilities were already adequately provided in the museum.
Cafe or no cafe ,the proof is in the money taken. If it goes towards keeping the museum afloat and artifacts safe and restored then it is a necessary evil.As Charlie stated i guess the majority of visitors are not enthusiasts .Food drink and good toilets probably come very high on a wish list of visitors.
My point is that cafe facilities were already there – why the need to provide that eyesore of a burger van not 30 feet away
As some of you may know, I’ve been a supporter of the Cold War Museum since it’s opening. But to see this new ‘mobile’ snack van shoe-horned between the Twin Pin and the Belfast….it’s just so cramped and undignified, and left me feeling just saddened when I came across it. I understand the need for income, I really do, but in my opininon this is a step too far.
If any of the management team read this thread, please have a think about balancing maximisation of income against approriate settings for your exhibits.
Bizarre – why do they need that there – given there’s a perfectly serviceable cafe under the stairs not 10 yards away and another in the visitor centre on the way in/way out! While we’re at it – why did they move the shop from the visitor centre (leaving an empty space) to the origami building where it takes up valuable museum space which would allow one or more of the airframes hung up Airfix style in the rafters beyond view to be better seen and displayed.
If they do feel the need to pander to the public’s inability to walk further than they need to why don’t they at least use a period tea van/canteen like they have at East Kirkby and Croome Park/RAF Defford
If this is the future, gawd help us

That thought crossed my mind too.
Why wouldn’t it be the contractorised S-92s from Humberside?
Appropriate then that the John Sargeant programme on the Sea King was repeated on Sunday night on BBC2 – presumably still available on the BBC iPlayer

looks like a small Royal Thai Air Force roundel – so presumably are all something used by RTAF

and we will contribute funding to the permanent memorial to those who died there and in Iraq.
Remind me – does the Bomber Command Memorial receive any Government funding – and if not, why not? in the light of the comment above.
