I remember a magazine article years ago about a Wellington mock-up built for a Czech film.

It was built over a Soviet ‘C-47’ and could be taxied under the power of the original engines, but not flown.

My recollection is that, on the ground at least, it looked very convincing.

it was in one of the earliest issues of Air International – when it was still known as Air Enthusiast International before the quarterly Air Enthusiast came out

It was a good representation – IIRC one compromise was the need to build channels into the side of the new outline to give the prop blades the necessary clearance.

    Moggy,

This was a sensible question seeking view abouts the potential to rebuild/replicate reproduce a Wellington Bomber

Do you have some sort of personality complex that requires you to try and appear cleverer and wittier than others?

or are you just a prat?

No doubt you will remove this thread and ban me like everybody else who find you rather tiresome!

No Defiant in Loch Ness Jeepman.

Just a series of Troll postings from Steve Carmichael Timson using Mark James, Ali Johnston et al to post false rumours.

How about we all back up possible sites with facts to support them on this thread to stop myths self generating.

    Regards
    Ross

Ross – wasn’t reflecting trolling from here – just reflecting on articles which were around at the time when the Wellington was first found in Loch Ness – some time before its recovery – Must have been in one of the first copies of FlyPast when Mike Twite was at the wheel

I would say that there was insufficient there to be classed as a surviving aircraft in either case. I think we are actually talking substantially complete aircraft here. Of course if there’s a data plate surviving amongst the wreckage someone will be asking when it will be at Legends.:D

The Bv155 is substantially complete – OK it was never finished but it looks 95% there – wasn’t it exhibited at Farnborough on it’s wheels after the war at the famous exhibition before being shipped to the USA.

Hell we have Spitfire survivors which started with a lot less……………….

    Parnall

Not sure if this quite qualifies, Saunders Roe as I can’t think of any of their production aircraft that survive.

    What about all the Skeeters?

    The MB5 of it’s day?

Actually – what about Martin-Baker as a manufacturer with no survivors?

TFC take note, Beaus and P-40’s might now be in constant demand for film work, you may have a good potential earner at DX.

According to the new FP, there are unconfirmed reports that the Beau is leaving the country in the autumn so that’s a non starter.

Anybody got an inkling of it’s destination – there can only be a limited number of destinations at that price

perhaps they borrowed Gladiators from Portugal as they did Hurricanes for another famous 1950’s movie, ‘Reach for the Sky’ I recall.

Weren’t the Portugese Hurris used in Angels One Five?

In addition to a Stirling, Manchester and a Whitley

    what about

    a fully restored Hampden
    a fully restored Halifax
and nobody has mentioned a Whirlwind………(Yeovil airfield anybody??)

    then………

Boston, Maryland, Baltimore, Vengeance, Buffalo or Mohawk

    and then again there’s……….
Albamarle, Botha, Master, Welkin (Yeovil airfield anybody??)

The worry is that when more than one group is resurrecting an extinct airframe they compete for scarce parts rather than pooling resources

For those of us who don’t live in the UK and so can’t read what the “uvver won” has to say about the re-emergence of G-ACGL (and where its mortal remains have been since it was reportedly scrapped in 1942), jeepman can you please expand upon this report. I hope its not another case of the constructor’s plate surviving and a “restored” aeroplane being built around it!

Good manners prevented me for quoting verbatim from one of Key’s competitors on Key’s own website – sorry is that too old fashioned?

Suffice it to say it seems that the remains are substantial and include engine, wing and parts of the tail
