After finding out that a restored FE2b is, seemingly, to appear out of thin air shortly a mere assembly of stuff that most people know anyway is something of an anti-climax.

Looks as if it might be some time before it materialises although there appears to be substance from which to build

And really all I do is remember things that have been public knowledge for some time and add the odd judicious google search – no big deal

Seems a bit of an anti-climax after Jeepman’s last post, but please find herewith my starter German list to be improved upon:

Why an anti-climax? – you’re the one who’s driving this (and doing a great job) – I’m just sweeping up the crumbs in your wake

    I’m sure there’s a Junker’s corrugated skin fighter (? D.1) at Le Bourget

IIRC There was/is one of the ex-Paul Strahl (?) Halberstadts (IIRC painted light blue) in the Daimler Benz museum – is that still there or has it moved on?

I saw some sort of licence built Albatross in the Army Museum in Vienna, near to the car that Grand Duke Ferdinand was killed in, setting off WW1

The other Brit WW1 survivor we’ve forgotten is of course

BAT Bantam 1 fighter K123 – ex Shuttleworth now fully restored at Leystadt, Holland

Hadn’t realised that at least one Bantam was tested in France during July 1918

seems as if RAFM had the same idea…………….

    http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-14837.html

Don’t think it’s seen the light of day yet though – in fact as it’s currently in store at Stafford, it’s probably so far on the back burner it’s probably outside the kitchen – although the quoted comment suggests that the wings and metalwork are now complete. Does anybody know who was/is doing it?

it arrived at Cardington between W&R5 and W&R6………..

    FE2b

The RAF Museum have an FE2b crew nacelle which IIRC was presented to them by Richard Garrett Limited (the traction engine builders) in Leiston, Suffolk. Apparently they built 16 FEs during the war and presumably this was left over from production and became a company “trophy”. You can see reference to the survival of the nacelle and it’s donation to RAFM in one of the display cabinets on the first floor in the Long Shop museum in leiston which used to be part of the Garrett works.

I suspect if RAFM found a Beardmore engine, some plans and some funding it would form the basis of a valuable addition to the WW1 collection…………….

    some more we’ve missed

Martinsyde F.4 Buzzard (?the Martin Baker MB5 of it’s day??)
    MA-24 Tikkakoski Finland

    Morane Saulnier BB
    A301 (Frame & u/c – was with RAFM – is it still?)

Don’t forget Bristol M1C C5001 in the Butler Memorial Minlanton Australia

    Cabruna’s Spad 7C1 is S.1420

Baracca’s Spad 7C1 S2489 is in the Museo Baracca in Ravenna

    is Ruffo’s Spad 7 S.153 ?

what happened to the ex IWM Spad 7 – IIRC owned by Louis Bleriot’s grandson?

The identity of the Weeks Spad 7 is 193, that at Kbely is S11583

To add to the confusion Piccio’s Spad 13C1 was/is at Vigna de Valle – was restored as a Spad 7 marked as S1420…………..

apparently Mdel’A also have the remains of a further Spad 13

Don’t Planes of Fame at Chino have an Hanriot HD1 5934 ex Nungesser

According to WW1 Survivors there are two MF 11s in Japan – the other is owned by the JASDF

    This is fun!

A quick google revealed the following

RCAF 5625 is being restored to flying condition by Moore Aviation Restoration (of Campbellville near Toronto, Ontario) and The Tiger Boys. 5625 served with 129 Squadron, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia from January 1943 to September 1944.

The PC crowd must already be in hysterics if that’s the case. There are currently swastikas on the Jungmann, Primary Glider, Bestmann, Stieglitz, Klemm and Storch. They’re accurate period markings.

Does anybody know what happened to the proposal (mentioned on the radio news last week) initiated by Germany that the swastika should be banned on an EEC wide basis?

Plus Gas or WD40 works for me on the jeep – and some of those bolts have been tight for 65 years

Other than that a little bit of heat (see the current Bluebird project diary) or
brute force and ignorance as a very last resort!

These people will undoubtedly have the right thing

    small correction

on the basis that this list might get trotted out in future years as a definitive list

My understanding was that the DH9 was powered by a Puma with an underslung radiator and that the DH9A was a complete redesign with a Liberty with a radiator in front of the engine

    so it should read

    DH9
E8894 Aero-Vintage Ltd, St Leonards-on-Sea for HAC Duxford
    F1258 Le Bourget, Paris
    F1287 Canberra, ACT, Australia
    D5649 Aero-Vintage Ltd, St Leonards-on-Sea for IWM
    ????? Fort Bikaner, India

    DH9A
    F1010 RAFM Hendon

obviously serials were not sequential – but presumably contract based instead.

The Alcock and Brown Vimy never seems to have had any identity – either Military or civil registration – was it taken off the assembly line? IIRC it was given a BAPC number in the absence of anything else

Any Mann-Egerton build Spad VIIs remaining???

Thanks for all your work on this Sea Hawk

    Thanks for these comments………….

…………it has been an interesting discussion.

I thought that the supply of “new” Mosquitos was probably limited by what currently remains and this has confirmed it.

Is it fair to say that the initiative has more improved the health of the existing Mosquito population than spawned the creation of additional ones?

here’s somebody’s holiday snap of the remaining Fort Bikaner DH9

    http://family.webshots.com/photo/2714862510042692665nlnZUw

ps think all the “DH9 type” survivors are DH 9s except the RAF Museums DH9A(“Nine-ack”) F1010

There’s an original Sopwith Triplane (N5486) at Monino, Russia

There are 1 1/2 Strutters at Brussels (S85) and Le Bourget (1263)

Wasn’t a third DH9 (identity??) left at Fort Bikaner, India, when the other two were recovered

I think the Middle Wallop and Science Museum 504s are one and the same (D7560)- was at MW now at SK

Does anyone have an identity and location (Blenheim?) for the ex-Norwegian BE2c in New Zealand?

A1325 is the ex Norway/ Mosquito Museum aircraft – the one now with Peter Jackson – is there another ex Norwegian airframe in NZ as well??

The Gardermoen Museum in Norway has fully restored BE2e 131 ex F1380 on show
