One of THOSE questions.
When did the RAF change from Green/Brown upper colours to Green/Grey?
And why?
ooh – a colour police question
Temperate Land Scheme (DE/DG/whatever) to Day Fighter Scheme DG/OG/MSG)- for day fighters in NW Europe only = sometime during mid 1941
why – because the DG/DE scheme was too “dark” at higher altitudes – the mixed grey or Ocean grey lightened the scheme
seems to be a balance between camouflage at low level or on the ground (eg Bombers which stayed TLS plus Night u/s) and camouflage at altitude

Delivered today. Came from Vietnam to Oz a number of years ago. In the hangar next to my Dog. I like it ’cause it ain’t a Willys/Ford ww2 machine – th 😮 ey’re cute but common.

Thought the US Army was expressly forbidden to dispose of them except as scrap? Something to do with civilians not knowing how to drive them and killing themselves trying to do things the MUTT was not supposed to do (like drive at speed?) – Nermal
Apparently the A2 version had the suspension foibles sorted but many of them seemed to have sprouted substantial roll cages in their later service lives though!
The US Army tended to just torch earlier versions in half prior to disposal…… some enterprising collectors just welded the two halves together again :diablo: – everything had been left in situ
Many of the uncut ones around have been sourced from IIRC Singapore or other Far East countries
Ah you see Barry, a 1:48th TSR.2 does exist…..
When doing their test shots, Airfix construct a lager scale model to ensure accuracy when it’s scaled down. They moulded a 1:48th scale to release the 1:72nd scale.
Perhaps you should contact Airfix see what they can do. I’d assume going on their previous kits, that if the 1:72nd TSR.2 seels well, it won’t be too long before a 1:48th scale version appears.
If you have to have a 1/48th TSR2 – you could either buy the Tamiya Swordfish 😉 or Dynavector from Japan IIRC do a very nice vacform….
from all accounts S-97 was beyond practical economic restoration
but at least S-130 remains

The sad loss (due to arson) of MGB 60 midway through restoration was a significant blow though. Pictures of the work done are available on the website of the Lowestoft yard which did the work
‘True Lies’, more of a comedy if you ask me, was spoofed by another film with John Leslies
Didn’t he present Blues Peters and go out with Catherines Zetas Jones before appearing in various newspapers?
Managed to get quite a bit in in 10 minutes…..
shots of P51s Janie, BBD and (obviously) Suzy (including the reporter in the back seat 😉 )
Shots of the Fokker Dr 1 and a Nie 17 from Flyboys plus shots of pre-, during and post-filming discussions with, inter alia, Ray Hanna
Short Interviews with Taff Smith and Brian Brown
shots from Legends this year
nice shots of Mustang and Hurricane in formation
and finally, and by no means least, film of the Buchon taxying sans spinner
They did seem to dwell on the “dangerous side” of warbird flying though!
Thanks
I can do minimalist as well 😉
Jeepman, tell me this really is hypothetical, otherwise I shan’t sleep tonight :diablo:
Can we all please be under no illusion
read my lips
It is a hypothetical question – something that I have been mulling over for years. I know what I would do (and it wouldn’t be post something here!) but I am intrigued to see the range of options considered available
It’s a hypothetical question – it’s not for real – much as I would like it to be!
Lanc in background
Which Lanc was shown under deep restoration in the background of some of the interviews??
Cheers
As they say on TV – “good question”..
As they also say on television….
“Good answer”
thanks for that
is that a moon buggy up on bricks i can see, someone has nicked the wheels
nah – it’s not in Liverpool – it’s in a giant warehouse in greater Los Angeles :diablo:
Wing query
Noted the comment that the Brit wing is being converted to Oz DAP Mk 21 (A8-xxx) spec. Given that the given identity is a British built Mk XI (A19-xxx) and presumably it won’t have a lumpy nose, for the auto-pilot, I would have guessed that it would have been appropriate to have converted the Oz spec wing to British spec rather than vice versa- or does the DAP built wing have advantages over the earlier wing in much the same way that the cockpit ergomonics are better on the Mk21. Not carping or critising – just interested for the reason to go that way
[QUOTE=Mark12]Not the first Spitfire since the warbird era to be painted in Dark Mediterranean Blue.
Unlikely that the Spits from Wasp were painted in RAF standard colours. A/c were painted in transit and it is probable therefore that standard USN colours were borrowed from the ship’s paint locker. Hurried application techniques may have also altered the shades anyway. The consensus is that the colour should be “greyer” although nobody actually knows what’s correct. Anybody interested in USN camouflage colours could probably get the odd clue from this excellent website.

whatever the colours police say still think BM looks nice in the new scheme
