Good Wishes passed to pilots crews and emergency services…
Looks like Wall-Mart with aircraft in it !
😀
I ‘m sorry to be a detracter but thats exactly what my Missus said…(well Tesco!)
Its great these aircraft are undercover, Although I cant see why/How Airspace has cost so much this Layout seems somewhat ‘the same’ (Yes I know its not finished)
All the ‘hung’ aircraft are ‘flying’ at the same angel…straight and level, Would be nice to see a few different angles used
Good luck and well done to all those at the ‘coal face’ 🙂
P.S. The Coffee shop has had this ‘de-sanitized’ effect, It used to have loads of posters from the period, now the walls are bare…minimalist…looks like a Tesco Cafe now! 🙁 The character of Duxford is being lost…
They could always become a Friend of Duxford. Toilets are a lot better and the food is cheaper. And you are less likely to get your car nicked or damaged.
Excellent!!!
Although not sure I’d like the Cafe to become overun with Laptops, Cappuchino and loud mobile phone conversations! 🙁
The presenter said that because the nearest service station was 40 miles? away that motorists will need somewhere to stop?
Well if they get off at the Duxford turning there is a petrol station in both directions less than a couple of miles away? Are we really that incapeable of planning a journey and looking after oursleves????
Local news has just run an article about the ‘threat’ to Duxford… 🙁
Are planners really this stupid???
No, it was “Anyone seen my effing Chipmunk”, remember who was flying it!!
Clive Denny ???
Yes she did fly – you can read about her history on Gordo’s excellent website:
Brooklands Concorde
many thanks, a very significant example indeed…
Looks fantastic, especially in the Early BA scheme, did this Concorde ever Fly?
Lets hope she has a long happy stay at Brooklands, unlike Solent Skies Sea Vixen! 😡
Sad if true but ‘historic aviation’ just does not strike a chord with the general public.
I remember talking to one of the Merlins for Malta team, they need to raise somewhere around £90000.00 It took them over two years! Arguably Spitfires and Hurricanes have more appeal than Vulcans!!! Governments, lottery’s and corporates were simply not interested.
I fear the worst for the Vulcan 🙁
Hardly “criminal” to have recovered this interesting artifact from a mountainside, stabilised it and placed in on public display, under cover, in a museum devoted to Bomber Command.
Their very limited restoration resources are devoted to the Hampden at present. I for one have no problem with that.
With limitless funds and resources, I’m sure another Wellington would be possible (but would be at least partially a replica). In the meantime, I can only applaud the work that’s gone into making East Kirkby what it is – they do an excellent job with limited resources. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my visits there in the past, and always remarked how beautifully kept the museum and its surroundings are.
What he said!!! 😀
Call me a grumpy old fart if you like, but is it only me who finds it intensely irritating to see the word “enjoy” whenever someone posts a photograph? Is this an order? It is as bad as those people on the radio who say “listen” every time they start talking. The fact that they are making a noise with their larynx means that we cannot help but “listen.” Enjoyment is a matter of personal preference, not an edict.
OK, I’ll crawl away and get back under my stone now.
😀 Bad day at the office Steve???? 😉
I can’t believe you guys are unhappy with the sale of the B-25 and the advertising of the Beaufighter and Tigercat.
Stephen Grey is a very devoted enthusiast to who we should be very grateful.
I can remember when having 2 Sptires at an airshow was a real luxury ,the continued growth of The Fighter Collection has seen an array of beautiful aircraft that I never imagined I would see flying. Now let me ask you this ,imagine you have a car on your driveway and your driving licence is for some reason withdrawn so you can no longer drive it,
what would you do with it ?1. maintain it regardless of cost, MOT, tax ,insurance ,servicing etc,or
2. sell it and use the funds elsewhere .
This all that Mr Grey is doing, difference is ,you don’t get howls of protest if you sell your car ,so i’m saying look forward to seeing what TFC are preparing next rather than whining when one is put up for sale -the line up is impressive
Gladiator,Sea Fury,Fiat ,Spitfire XVIII ,P-40 ,P-47,no doubt an amazing collection on its own and apart from that where would they keep them all?
Read the post by Beaufighter VI about the struggles the week before legends and take that into account as well, Hmmm more respect for the work of Mr Grey and his engineers required I think .Steve
p.s enjoy them while they are here ,WE never appreciate what we have until its gone!!!
Great post Steve, I guess nothing is forever….
Personally I think its great to see some new aeroplanes joining the Collection.
The sale of the Hurricane obviously is for a seperate issue, I wonder if we will see a new Hurricane at TFC.
Either way they do a great job……..cant wait for the Gladiator!!! 🙂
A comment made about 18 months ago by a very senior individual at IWM.
Isn’t the airfield owned/operated by the local council?
I believe that IWM do not see flying at Duxford as ‘core’ to its future, there is a belief that the museum would manage without it.
