Irvine Gaze
I was reliably informed that Irvine was scrambled to intercept a couple of 88’s and yes he did fly into the downs during fog, although I do not have times or dates to clarify this, he was only a young lad when he passed as were most of them. There were numerous accidents at Westhampnett at that time, one notable occasion being when Scott was watching Bader circle to land along with two young pilot officers in tow when he made a crazy manoeuvre over the airfield causing the other two spits to collide, needless to say Scott was not impressed and the incident never left him or his contempt for Bader for causing the accident.
Irvine Gaze
I was asked by an old friend of Tony’s in Auz to find his brothers grave Irvine Gaze over here a few years ago. he was shot down over the Downs near Goodwood after chasing a couple of marauding 88’s that were doing low level strafing on the coast, I did locate it and together with his buddy David Wood notified the war graves commission to have the stone cleared and cleaned, of which they did.
Tony Gaze
Tony Gaze was with Mr Bader at Westhampnett
There might be a chance of lessons in a Stearman at Goodwood, I will get back to you.
Yes, I am billy no mates
Despite the absence of my comment throughout the years, I do enjoy following you guys, but often despair at the topics and the way they are debated, but I enjoy the banter as long as itโs constructive.
The original topics on this forum often disappear into oblivion and conclude on an argument that bears no resemblance to the original question.
This is an historic forum so I follow it generally to keep up to date with the news, of which I’m never disappointed.
As a bonafide anorak, I follow certain threads with great interest and enjoy the input from certain knowledgeable parties but have only felt qualified to respond to a thread on very few occasions, despite having been in the aeronautical business for many years.
I will try and “muck in” in the future, but please have patience with my abruptness.

With all due respect both Wellington and Nelson hailed from the 19th century, so there wasn’t an equivalent.

I sometimes wonder
I agree, why ask a constructive question if all you get back is a load of immature crap from a bunch of don’t knows, I used to spend a great deal of time on this forum and now I can see why I don’t any more. Grow up guys and try if you can to answer the mans question, I suspect the reason for the childish babble is that you dont know, which only goes to highlight your ignorance.
Anyone have any ‘interesting’ A-26 colour schemes [not black]?? ๐
