What year was the UH-60 and AB-412 offered? I don’t remember hearing about those.
Nope,it was legit. Uruguay expressed interest in 3-4 surplus Vikings to replace their S-2 Trackers. The deal appears to have gone no where. The real problem is that near the end of their lives, most USN Vikings were gutted of their ASW sensors, and had their sonobouy tubes covered up and focuses more on the refueling and some “Sea Control” roles. The cost to put that equipment BACK in and get them up and going would be pretty high, especially to a country like Uruguay and that probably why they haven’t been taken up.
Well right before he was overthrown, the Shah had some pretty impressive weapons on order such as the E-3A Sentry,C-5A Galaxy,Sea Harriers. They helped finance(and ordered as well) the AH-1W SuperCobra and what would become the Challenger tank. IIRC, they also had 2x Invincible Class CVs on order for the Sea Harriers as well. Thy also evaluated the A-10 Warthog and were offered A-4M Skyhawk IIs ,so theres some more possibilities.
Anyone have any pics of the Frogfoots from Gambia, Macedonia or the ones from Ivory Coast before the French took them out?
Thanks in Advance
The USCG HH-65A&B models are based on the AS-365N, but the C&D models have the longer radar nose of the AS-565.
AFIK Israel doesn’t use the AS.15TT. The Missile requires a triangular radome for the Agrion 15 radar installed under the nose. So far the only examples I’ve seen that carry this are the ones from Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Users of the AS-565 Series
Angola
Brazil Army
Bulgaria Navy
France Navy
Israel AF and Navy(Navy choppers flown by AF crew)
Mexico Navy
Morocco Navy
UAE AF and Navy
USCG(as the HH-65C and MH-65D)
These users have been confirmed(by pictures in my collection) concerning Wikipedia, yea, as far as I know, Bangladesh and Taiwan do not operate the AS-565. Bangladesh I think at one point had either an AS-365N or AS-360, but it’s been retired. Taiwan uses the AS-365N, but these are for the National Airborne Service Corps.
The PRC Navy and Pakistan Navy also use a version of the AS-565 called the Z-9C in the ASW role.Venezuela has also shown interest in the Z-9C as well.
And the anwser your question, the Z-9 has models based on both the AS-365N and AS-565.
Already been done, Boeing re-engined it with 2xGarrett TFE731-3A turbofans and made the Boeing Skyfox.
Anyone have any pictures of the new Brazilian S-70B Seahawks? seem to remember seeing at least one on the net, think it was a rollout shot…Also, I noticed tonight Spain has some S-70Bs that have the MAD unit attached. Did they orginally have this or is this maybe an Ex-USN model that got transfered, since AFAIK, only the USN SH-60Bs had the MAD pylon.
Looks like the Mi-24VM with the 23mm gun, FLIR, but no intake covers? I know the old Mi-24Ds didn’t have them, but I thought all the newer production models did? Did they decided to do away with them again?
Anyone have anything from Ethiopia? Specifically, I’m looking for Mi-14 Hazes. Apparently they have 2x Mi-14PL models. Also, any pictures of the Su-25Ts,Su-25UBKs, Su-27/ Su-27UB or An-32s they operate (or operated)?I’ve seen a few pics of the baseline Su-27s, but so far none of the UB model. Also, they supposedly got some IL-38s, but I would suspect these were Russian planes operating FROM Ethiopia rathern the Ethiopian AF planes.
Indonesia’s Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro has confirmed Jakarta’s interest in getting eight Apache helicopters.
Based on the article’s mention of “buying from Europe” and Leopard 2 tanks,I’m wondering if they are surplus Netherlands models. If so,I’m wondering in the Apaches are are from the Netherlands as well?
I’m kinda suprised they didn’t get at least a couple E-767s when they ordered their KC-767s. End up with a force like Japan has, which,if nothing else would be good for spares compatibility.
Wasn’t there some talk of Italy being offered the E-2? Granted,I’m not sure the E-2 would be right for the job,but I thought I read about it possibly being an option for Italy. This was a few years back I believe.
The Tornado ECR was proposed to the USAF as a replacement for the F-4G,but not taken up.
The Victor B.1 was ordered by the South African AF,but the UK goverment at the time cancelled the order right as the planes were on the productionline.
Germany looked at buying some S-3A Vikings to replace their Gannets but went with the Br.1150 Atlantic.
The Canadians looked at buying the HH-60 Maplehawk before going with the CH-149.They also looked at buying a SAR model of the CH-47 at about the same time.
An offer to someone does not mean a country had a real intrest in that. In most cases a country get a fighter it was able to pay for. Today it is just the F-22A not freed for exports at all. Taiwan is restricted by political pressure of China f.e.

were evaluated by the German army and advertised in German aviation magazines. The AH-1 in production was not enough and the US army forces selected the AH-64 successor, when France and Germany developed the later Tiger as replacement for their anti-tank helicopters. The last one was/is built to the specifications of a given mission in mind. Non serious would ever claim that Germany and France could not get in US helicopter instead.
You’re not making any sense. The whole thing of the AH-56 and S-67 is a moot point. There was only one S-67 built and it was destroyed. The AH-56 was canceled within 5 years of its first flight and was no where near being ready to go into service. They were still working the bugs out of it.So,the idea that they were more likely to enter service over versions of the AH-1 or AH-64 is laughable.
Some more proposels for today:
Spain-Wanted KC-135s but ended up with KC-97Ls
Spain-Looked at getting the F-4E but in the end, didn’t.This maybe linked to them going with the Mirage F.1 instead.
Thailand-Looked at buying the EH101 for VVIP but went with the S-92.
Mexico-Looked at buying the IAI Kfir but was blocked by the US (because of the US built engine) but then allowed to buy US supplied F-5E/Fs.
South Africa-Evaluated both the Lightning and the F-104 before selecting the Mirage III.
New Zealand-Had the chance to pick up some mothballed F-16A/Bs but shortly there after did away with their combat ability.
Germany-Versions of both the AH-1 Cobra and AH-64 Apache were proposed for the PAH-2 role,Germany went with the EC-665.
Greece-Wanted the EF2000 for awhile,I believe they even ordered it,but I think financial issues got in the way.
Lebanon-Wanted Mig-29s and they’re getting Mi-24s.
Canada-Wanted the C-141 and even assigned it a designation, the CC-141,but the order was cancelled.
Iraq-I’ve read that Iraq, back before Gulf War I was looking at a second order of Mig-29s but didn’t like the downgraded export models they were getting,so they ordered more Mirage F.1s instead.
South Korea-Was interested or possibly ordered a model of the Bronco called the OV-10G,from what I’ve read, based on the OV-10D.As far as I know it’s never entered service or the order was cancelled.
France-Evaluated the F-4 but prefered the F-8 due to its ability to land on smaller carriers.
France-Evaluated the F-15 but decided to go with the local Mirage 2000
Australia was offered an F-4C model, powered by Atar 9 engines since the engine was already in service on the Mirage IIIOs.They passed, and probably a good thing too as it would have been severely underpowered.
