Well,I think that would be like a F-20 Tigershark if you’re going for something based on the original F-5 design.Take a basic F-20,add a fixed IFR probe,AIM-120 AMRAAM or AIM-7 Sparrows, and update the avionics a bit.Being more realistic,I’d say the next best thing to the F-20 would have to be the SAAB Gripen. Its about the same size and is about as cheap as you’re going to get on a new fighter. On ther other hand, you could go to China and get some model of F-7 pretty cheap, which as far as I know,is still in production there.
Is this one like Ace Combat 5,where you buy a jet, then can buy different variants? Like for example, you have the F-5 and then you can get the X-29 and the F-20? Or is it just the different paint schemes?
Anyone notice the “joint” USAF F-4/RAF F-4 intercept picture? I didn’t know joint intercepts were ever made? Did those USAF Phantoms come out of Lakenheath?
Nope, looks like F-4Cs from the 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Keflavik, Iceland. My guess is they were doing a switch off from the RAF Phantom and taking over the intercept.
As far as the Israelis RFs go,I’ve seen a pic of the RF-4E(S) model carrying the Pythons on the Sparrow bay rail launcher, and I’d have to assume the standard RF-4E could do the same. The rail is attached to a small pylon that goes up to the former Sparrow Bay.This could be faired over, but,as you know, the Israelis have a way or improvising.Only the forward bays are used, never seen a pic of the aft bays or all four being used at once.
I see your point, and I agree.I would suggest an RF-35 JSF would be possible, but with all the cuts and issues with that program,I’m not too certain anymore.Lockheed did propose an RF-117 Nighthawk model with cameras mounted in the former weapons bay.The offer wasn’t taken up though.
Yea,that was the F/RF-4X program.Israel later bought 3 as the RF-4E(S).These were just standard Mach 2 models with the modified camera bay.Great for standoff recon.IIRC,one was shot down and as the soviet advisors were climbing over the wreckage, several Israeli F-4s came in and unloaded onto the wreckage, destroying what was left and killing everyone around it.Too bad the USAF didn’t buy a couple. These could be fitted with rails where the old Sparrow bays were to carry Python missiles.Interesting looking to say the least.
Anyone have any pics of the Mi-24V Ecological Survey Aircraft? This model was used to monitor air polution, dececting oil spills in bodies of water ,etc. The LLLTV/FLIR and missile launchers were deleted but the missile guidance pod was retained. The nose gun was also deleted making way for more sensors.I believe only one was converted,so its a pretty rare beast.
Anyone have any pics of S-70 Blackhawks/Seahawks from Thailand or Greece?
What’s this Skyraider carrying  Anyone got more Vigilante pics?
Looks like a BLU-72 Pave Pat I 2500lbs Fuel Air Explosive.
Sounds interesting, but I think the F-15K would be better suited, maybe use a system in the CFT,like was proposed back in the days when they were called FAST(Fuel And Sensor Tank).Use it like a duel role quick change recon/bomber.It has better range for the recon mission then the F-16 too.I’m sure economically speaking though the F-16 makes more sense.
Laos also operates 1 Halo
Thai F-5Es also carry the Pave Claw.
First,I’m kinda suprised the Su-15 was never exported.Granted,it was kinda the homeland defender,so maybe that played a role, plus the fact that Mig-21s and -23s were the exports bread and butter. Also, wasn’t the Tu-128 Fiddler derived from the Tu-98 Backfin bomber? After the Tu-98 was cancelled, they revised the design a bit,and made the Fiddler.
I like the idea of the F414 Turbofans and the satellite datalink. The best possible RF model would be based on the Israeli IAI Super Phantom with the PW1120 Turbofans.I think that would be a good starting point, then maybe add the nose section of the RF-4E(S),throw in a datalink system and some self defence AAMs,and there you go.The standoff recon role would be great for the Phantom II.Also maybe an underbelly ELINT pod to go with the standoff cameras. In this sense,it could be like a mini RC-135,orbiting near the border of a hostile country and not need to risk penertrating enemy airspace.
I live near AL-Rasheed Air Base in Baghdad and have seen:
