How about Flashpoint? I do like Fishpaste for the FC-1 though.

India already has 2 fighters in the F-16 Class, the Mig-29 and Mirage 2000.It would have no use for F-16s,no to mention the fact that its main enemy,Pakistan, operates F-16s.

By the way,the Tupolev “Beauty” did enter production, but under another codename that you may know. The Tu-22 Blinder. It seems NATO thought the name Beauty praised the aircraft, and like Hammer said, made it sound sexy,so they changed the name to Blinder.Same aircraft though. The same change happened to the Mig-15,which at first had the name Falcon, but had it changed to Fagot.Besides, the Su-34 is really a theatre bomber,so a “B” name would be more suitable.Maybe use the old Tu-82 codename since it never went into production. The Su-34 Butcher,I think that sounds better. Then again,I also know the Su-24 had the same role, yet also received an “F” name with Fencer.

-Has any heard or seen pics of Mi-24 Hinds from either Mexico or Tanzania? According to Janes, both countries operate it,and I though I heard awhile back Mexico was thinking of buying some.

Heres a bad one thats not been covered yet.”Rules of Engagement”. 2 CH-46 Sea Knights take off a helicopter carrier to evacuate a beseiged US embassey in Africa,as they fly over the ocean, they’re still CH-46s but once they land at the embassey to drop off the marines, they’re grey CH-47s.LOL Not really that bad of a movie except for that error.I’ve also heard that the AH-1 Cobras escorting the CH-46s start off as AH-1Ws but when the CH-46s turned to CH-47s,the Cobras turned from AH-1Ws to AH-1Fs,although I didn’t notice this as much as the CH-46/47 transformation.

Slovenia’s Air Force uses the PC-9M also. They carry gun and rocket pods as armament, although I couldn’t tell what type from the pic.

The FC-1 looks like a decent plane but most likey, one for export rather then home markets.Pakistan would buy it,and Iran has been another possible costumer.I wouldn’t cream my pants over it like some in here.Lets face it,the J-10 is a more advanced design, the FC-1 is more,in my opinion, like a modern day F-5E,or F-20 as it will have a BVR missile capability.I also doubt it will acheive much export success apart from the two countries I mentioned before. All other possible countries that China usually exports to such as Bangladesh,Sri Lanka, etc already have the F-7 Fishbed and are happy with it.Albania would be a good market for possibly 10-12 FC-1s.

I would assume that in a lot of cases these are Ex USAF aircraft.Turkey, along with Greece, got ex USAF F-102 Delta Daggers and they also recieved ex Air Force F-4Es.

I personally think if they would have used a normal bomb bay, like the B-52,instead of that linear one,the A-5 would have been a far better bomber. The A-5 was also used as a tanker for awhile too, with a hose and drouge unit in the bomb bay.I like the idea of the ECM version. And by the way,a fighter version armed with Phoenix missiles was studied by the USAF as a Air Defense Fighter for NORAD to replace the F-106 Delta Darts.

I got my info from designation-systems.net.According to this site, the Su-47(S-37) is called the Firkin and the Mig 1.44 MFI is called the Flatpack. As far as being in the Intel community,I was just a Army Cavalry Scout.

Being a former Army Cavalry Scout,my vote for for one I’m surprised hasn’t made it up here yet.The Air Cav Attack sceen in “Apocalypse Now” when Col. Kilgore brings his UH-1 Hueys and OH-6 Loachs in low over the ocean to rocket and strafe a VC village while playing “Flight of the Valkryies”.Going along with is was the F-5As dropping the napalm on the tree line and the famous “I love the smell of napalm in the morning…it smells like victory”. Great sceen.Great movie.I’ll also agree that “Empire of the Sun” was a great movie. The sceens where he sees the Zero for the first time at the base, and salutes the Japanese pilots and when the P-51 attacks the airbase are my favorites.

1.The boxy fairings are not cameras. They are RWR (radar warning recievers) as part of the onboard ECM system.

in reply to: Why doesn't Iran operate Flankers? #2634545

The reason Iran doesn’t have Flankers is because it still has F-14As.I heard awhile back they were also interested in the Mig-31 Foxhound/AA-9 Amos combo to possibly replace the F-14/AIM-54 but this also never came to light. As pionted out before, they also have a good attack aircraft/theatre bomber in the Su-24MK Fencer and the Mig-29 makes a good tactical fighter to go with the F-14,just as the US has the F-16 to complament the larger F-15.The F-14s have also been combat tested in Iran, where they did very well against the Iraqi Air Force. The Flanker hasn’t had much air combat experiance so far, mainly just in the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Also, although the Iranian Air Force was somewhat dissapointed at the Mig-29s lack of range, they are now equiped for inflight refueling from the 707 and 747 tankers so this is no longer an issue.I aslo heard they were interested in a couple Tu-22M-3 Backfires. This deal also fell through, too bad though, those would have been great for maritime strike/theatre bomber roles.
