Any pics of the Myanmar Mig-29UBs?
I think J-10/F-10 Firefly sounds good.As far as the JH-7,isn’t that called the Flounder?
I was kinda suprised by that as well, but I suppose it would be more then possible since one of the first exports for the ML model wasn’t one of the European Warsaw Pact countries, but Angola.
Are the Libyian Mig-23BNs in the same colors as the Mig-23MS Floggers?
In fact, judging by what I can see in the pictures it offers more positions for gunners than the MH-53 it will be replacing and thus at the very minimum it has more guns to shoot at people who might be shooting at it.
Well,as it turns out,its not replacing the MH-53M Pave Low.Its replacing the HH/MH-60G Pave Hawks. So,from what I’ve heard the HH-47H and the MH-53J/M will be flying alongside one another. Most of the work between the Air Force and Boeing is going to be going on here at Wright-Patterson.So,it would appear that the Pave Lows still have some years left on them.
For a helicopter, the Chinook isn’t too agile, even the larger HH/MH-53 is more agile. This feature is important at low level when dodging enemy fire.In this aspect the HH-71 would be better. The best bet for the Air Force at this point would be to keep using the Pave Lows for CSAR and use the HH-47Hs for Special Forces transport role.On the other hand, the South Korean Air Force uses Chinooks designated HH-47Ds as SAR helos. These are usually used alongside their UH-60Ps.
So going along with the designations, this will probbley be the HH-47H Chinook.
Heres a profile I did awhile back of an Egyptian Fulcrum,a regular vanillia “A” model, not the SMT model involved, but this is maybe how the Egyptian Mig-29s will appear.
Also, export and special duty models of aircraft tended to go against normal numbering. For example, the East German’s Mig-23BN was known as the Mig-24.The export Mi-24 Hinds were the odd numbered Mi-25 and Mi-35.The Airborne Command post model of the Mi-26 Halo being the Mi-27.
How can a D model be the longest serving Tomcat? I can understand taking an old A model, re-engining it and designating it a B model, but not a ‘new build’ D model.
Well, seeing as all “A” and “B” models have been scrapped already, this would be the oldest surviving model.
They’ve got a billboard up here at Wright-Patterson as well.I’m thinking the EH-101 will win, although,a CSAR model of the CH-53K would be nice too.3 engines, good amount of cabin room, good range, all important for the CSAR role.If Sikorsky were smart, they’ed be offering the HH-53K or MH-53K over the S-92.But,the wait on it may be a little longer as opposed to the EH-101,S-92 or HH-47 Chinook.By the way, wasn’t the Air Force looking at replacing the Pave Lows with Ospreys in the begining?
I remember seeing some drawings in a book years ago of a Czech Candid. As we all know, they never got them, but IIRC,the book was saying that they had expressed interest in them as a replacement for their An-12 Cubs.I think it also mentioned Poland as a possible user as well.
At one time of another, they were also looking at the Chinese F-8IIM Finback and JH-7 Flounder. The F-8 really didn’t offer any improvement over the F-4s already in use and I think with the JH-7,it was mainly an issue of it being underpowered in the Hot and High enviroment, compared with the Su-24 Fencer.Iran also got one or two IL-76 AWACS from Iraq back in ’91.
I believe I read that the IL-76PP was to be used as an escort jammer for the A-50 Mainstay to mask its location from enemy fighters.Although,on the other hand, since it is a jammer aircraft, couldn’t it jam the Mainstay’s radar, preventing it from doing it’s job? Maybe thats why it was cancelled.
Are there any pics of the HC.Mk3s?
