Good question ozplane, I am interested to hear how it’s going with it and also will it be flown by Martin Phillips? Considering that he has put so much into it to get it airworthy I hope that he will fly her.

Sopwith, I think it highly unlikely that Martin will fly her, I think he is only at the PPL stage. I believe he has a designated pilot.

Yes Sopwith it is ! Based somewhere in France now, not sure where. We did the wings for this back in 1995 at AirframeAssemblies while Hawker Restorations did most of the rest !

    Hi Cornovil,
You could try phoning Chris Mitchell at Airframe Assemblies to see if we have some. You dont say whether Static or for flight ! We may have some suitable for static purposes. If for flight then we could suppy these also.

Hi all, I worked on the first and second “Production ” aircraft back in 1983/4 making tailplanes and working on the fuselage. I remember we modified the main fireproof bulkhead and nose wheel retraction bay, I think this was to take a larger wheel and tyre because on the prototype the prop tips were to close to the ground and cut the daises on grass strips. I also remember mods done to the rails that the cockpit canopy closed on too !

Can anyone clarify if both operators are using MJ627? Any feedback from people who have had a flight from either operator would be appreciated. Goodwood have confirmed that they won’t allow cameras onboard (Quite understand this) but they can provide a video of your flight.
Trying to arrange travel to Usedom this year for a specific date was too complicated from Edinburgh so I was planning to travel to Goodwood via Southampton for a flight but Biggin Hill might be easier to access for me via Gatwick.

Hi all, as I understand it Mj627 is privately owned and was leased to Boultbee at goodwood but is now on a years lease to BHHH.

I don’t think the tail section was yours on this one, but may be wrong! I have the same rumour.

Bruce, you maybe right about tail. I know we did the tailplanes and rudder because I made them ! And I’m pretty sure we did the elevators as well. I think we did 2 sets of everything. But I know i put together 3 seats though.

It was predominantly Craig’s baby. He was the driving force behind it, even if not the money.

Yep Craig was the driving force & Airframe Assemblies did all the metal work except for the engine cowlings. I heard a rumour that she may be based at Biggin Hill. Anyone confirm this !

Well it doesnt look like anything engine as the label says. Material is too thin, looks more like skinning material.

    Steve,

Did the prospective owner tell you that he/she didn’t want it made public or, is this your personal interpretation ?

John im not talking about prospective owner, i mean the currant one. No they didnt ask me to say nothing but there are things that dont need to be aired in public !

A forum, by it’s nature. Is not a place for secrets. Only last week moderator Bruce locked a thread because the poster knew information but was prevented from posting it. Because it was a secret. We all have secrets, most of us dont go on open forums and boast about them. So telling the forum that you have information about “The Pitt Spitfire” but are not allowed to share it …? It’s deserving of moderator comment. And Moggy, a moderator who is actually posting as a moderator.

I didnt say its a secret, i said confidentiality, totally different, its called respecting other people’s wishes, some of whom own classic aircraft. “Respect”, that is something posters on here ought to consider more !!

I really do not understand this irritating faux secrecy ! Does the fate of Nation’s hang upon revelations concerning the location/type/identity of Mr. Pitt’s purchase ? Do I detect the influence of John Le Carre ?

Is this how conspiracy theories gain currency ?

I expect Mark12 and myself are party to information that the owner wouldnt want made public ! No secrets just confidentiality !

Thanks Mark12, im sure there would confidentiality clause’s . Moggy i couldnt see the serial no ! I knew that wasnt aircraft in question. The Somerset bit is a clue although its actually in Wiltshire. Certain things lead to suggest that this may the aircraft but like Mark12 i wouldnt want to say here.
