[QUOTE=GoldenDragon] I have a lot off questions, including one that had intrigued me for a long time: do you think former fighter pilots or former transports pilots are better for civilian airlines? [QUOTE]
I know my Father (Marine AD/R4Q pilot), who flew for Eastern for 35+ years, said that the best he flew with were the Army helicopter pilots who flew in Vietnam, followed by the Navy/Marine pilots, for what it is worth. But that was almost 20 years ago.
AH-56A Cheyenne, lost out to AH-64/Congress (plus tech problems), but still my favorite attack helicopter…
Hypothetical question:
Had the French stayed in the Eurofighter program, what are the chances a navel varient could have been built, the UK joining in, thus leading to a CTOL Carrier program for the UK?
Unlikely, but any thoughts?
What’s the story on the USMC Thud?
You’re right. I should have formulated that question more clearly.
No problem! My Father flew the Electra for Eastern right up until the bitter(for him) end of their service with Eastern, and it was one his favorite aircraft to fly.
No, the L-188 Electra was first a civil aircraft and then a military.
Factoid about the L-188: Only large civil turboprop built in the U.S. First regular commercial service on 23Jan1959, only 2 days before the first commercial flight of an Boeing 707.
I misread your Q then, since you just said cousin, and I have cousins that are older than me. 😀
11: P-3 – Electra
The F7U-3 “Ensign Eliminator” had afterburners from the 17th aircraft on (163 -3 built with J46, the first 17 -3 had Allison J35). Plus there were 98 -3M (with the AAM-N-2 “Sparrow” beam rider SARH) and 12 -3P built. About 50 F7U-3 crashed, hence the nickname. One of the few dual-engine jets that couldn’t fly on just one engine.
Wasn’t the position of the 20mm also a problem? I remember reading pilots say that when fired, the guns tended to stall the engines. Anyone else ever heard that?
Is the C-2 actually ever used for jumps by SEAL teams or other paratroopers?
I never knew they were tasked with that, if that’s the case.
I suppose it makes a good carrier-based C-130 substitute (albeit with lower numbers of troops) if that’s the case.
There is some decent footage of the C-2 in “Tears of the Sun”, with the Seal team making a jump from a C-2. Not an aircraft you see in movies much.
We Were Soldiers has some decent (real) AD footage……
We have had a great thread with these film mistakes about military aircraft, and obviously, there are so many mistakes that can be listed with good research that I definitely think some of us forumers should get together to set the record straight. I don’t know much about making websites or web-pages, but maybe if someone does, we can all use the existing thread to pitch in ideas and stuff from films we REALLY REALLY hate.
Didja try here?

Yep, a pathetic excuse for an attempt at a movie…….
it bumped Titanic off the top of my list as the worst movie I have seen in the last 10 years or so.
