Nice to have a thread where we can be subjective about things, and not get too bogged down in comparisons about performance, economics, whatever. Some of my best trips involved a Swiss RJ100 out of LCY, connecting nicely at Zurich with the Thai MD-11 to BKK, so I have a soft spot for both those types. Love the 747-400 too, and however much more efficient the A380 may be, I don’t think it comes close in pure aesthetics. Oh yes, and the Rapide I had a flip in at Duxford several years ago.

Mr Creosote – the article says it was switched to silent (presumably vibrator) mode.

So it does. Saw this at work, and so only skimmed through the BBC article (and clearly not very well at that) Thanks. ðŸ˜Ū

I’m probably missing something here, but if the phone was switched on why didn’t they get someone to call it, and locate it from the sound of it ringing? Worked for me the other day.

I saw an E-3 flying unusually low and noisy around Waddo about 4.45pm. Was that the one? Welcome to the forum, BTW!

A report on Thaivisa says it was a Porter, but I reckon it’s more likely a Fairchild AU-23A (think that’s right) the license built version.

The pilots who died in a plane crash have been identified.

The pilots who died in a plane crash in Chanthaburi (āļˆāļąāļ™āļ—āļšāļļāļĢāļĩ) have been identified, but the cause of the crash is still unknown.

Royal Rainmaking Office Director Apichai Jeungprapa (āļāļ āļīāļŠāļąāļĒ āļˆāļķāļ‡āļ›āļĢāļ°āļ āļē) revealed that at around 1:20 PM yesterday, a porter plane number 1312 of the office crashed after taking off from the Tha Mai (āļ—āđˆāļēāđƒāļŦāļĄāđˆ) airport in Chantaburi at an altitude of 300 feet. The plane had been tasked with making a rainmaking operation. The cause of the crash is still unknown, but the names of the pilots on board have been identified.

The pilots who died in the incident include Captain Wichein Worachat (āļ§āļīāđ€āļŠāļĩāļĒāļĢ āļ§āļĢāļ‰āļąāļ•āļĢ), Sergeant Taweesak Chuaychoo (āļ—āļ§āļĩāļĻāļąāļāļ”āļīāđŒ āļŠāđˆāļ§āļĒāļŠāļđ), Mr. Yai Silapaya (āđƒāļŦāļāđˆ āļĻāļīāļĨāļ›āļēāļĒāļ°), and Mr. Panya Sriwimol (āļ›āļąāļāļāļē āļĻāļĢāļĩāļ§āļīāļĄāļĨ). The officials are investigating the cause of the crash, which they believe did not result from the old condition of the plane, as the plane has been renovated in 2001.

Mr. Apichai said that the center has made rainmaking operations continuously to relieve drought problems, adding that it is a shame that the center lost ones of their best staff. He said that the center is contacting relatives of the dead to provide any possible assistance.

Not exactly a song, but… Centuries ago, when I was in my early teens, I had the most enormous crush on a girl at work. For weeks on end I could hardly sleep, hardly eat, hardly even speak sometimes. Nothing came of it, but for years I still carried a torch. Then one day, quite by chance, I heard she was shortly getting married. A few days later I heard “Meditation” from Thais by Jules Massenet on telly (The movie version of The Cricket in Times Square) and I went to my bedroom, sat down on the floor, and just cried my bloody eyes out (heck, I’m not far away now, just thinking about it) Shed a lot of tears since then, and a couple of years ago found the real love of my life, but never in my life, before or since, have I ever cried like that.

What i want to know is why marathons whent to snickers….

Not sure, but I think the US parent company (Mars?) wanted it to be called the same thing all over the world; ditto Treets becoming M&Ms. Which reminds me of the old joke-
“Doctor! Help me, I’ve got a peanut stuck up my bum”
“Don’t worry. Take this laxative chocolate and it will come out a Treet”

Been the weirdest day here in Bomber County. Mid afternoon it was really warm and sunny, now tonight we have about an inch of snow.

Ooh, chocolate limes, pear drops, winter candy… I remember kayli too; little cardboard tube of sherbert, and a liquorish straw to suck it out with. At least until it got blocked, you tried to unroll the cardboard tube to get at the sherbert, and ended up with most of it over your clothes. Happy days.
