First time I saw this I thought it was a mock-up of some sort, but I think it’s real. Anyone know where it is?
Interesting scenario and great models. Thanks.
I’m sure it must have been done before, but a simple “Bombers” might sound good, referring to both the men and the machines. Or how about “Moonlight Sonata”? Sometimes sends a shiver up my spine to think of that music and picture all those planes taxiing out at some dark cold airfield for yet another raid.
I know just what you mean, Moggy. Really makes you think. Some poor devil paid the ultimate price, and the powers-that-be couldn’t even run to a hand-written note.
Very interesting photos. Note the one on the left is one of those Lincoln freighters. From what I can remember three were converted for use in Paraguay but were never delivered. I may be wrong, but am sat at work and havent got any references to hand.
Martin
They were called Lincolnians, and intended as meat freighters.
Thai Airways Concorde? Ooh, just think, LHR-BKK in, what, 4 hours?
Nooooo! Trev’s an institution!
No offence, but I really don’t understand the fuss. He’s just a bloke on telly who reads the news, and not particularly well IMHO. Since when does that deserve a Knightood?

A little off topic, but there were a few Gnats used in the movie spoof “Hot Shots!”, which starred Charlie Sheen.Daz
Did I imagine it, or was it called the “Phallus” in the film?
I am not apologising for being harsh on this because I am a professional and well qualified historian MA, PH.D etc.
Well Bully for you.
And then of course there was the ducted fan Islander, G-FANS-

Is this the one? RFB Fantrainer, built in Germany. I think the Farnborough crash you mention was the Buffalo demonstrator, rather than one of the Dashes.
The RAF did not get its first Curtiss-built Tomahawks until late 1940, but what if North American Aviation had agreed to the original British Purchasing Commission request to build the P-40 for Britain? Would they have arrrived in Britain sooner, and if so would they have been pitched into the BoB? If NAA had built the P-40, I guess the P-51 might never have seen the light of day.
There’s also a Spit in the RTAF museum at Bangkok. Got a picture somewhere, but I’m bxggered if I can find it. 😡
Flying Aebal B717 is a torture. Too many seats.
Ditto Bangkok Airways. When I flew BKK-HKT a couple of years ago the plane was barely 20% full but the seat pich was absolutely abominable. Shame, because Bangkok Airways are otherwise very good.
