Yes, that’s pretty much my point, Snaf. I am patriotic, and that’s why I resent the “England” image being represented by these players who hardly seem to care about playing for their country. Emlyn Hughes once famously said he would have walked from Liverpool to Wembley just for the honour of playing for England; compare that to today’s self-centred morons who at best just mumble their way through the National Anthem, or Ashley Cole (not in the team now, I gather) with his infamous “F- England” tweet. And yet for all that, and the way they fail to live up to expectations time after time, people still fall for that jingoistic “Back our Boys” rubbish, work themselves up into a frenzy, and then take it out on the rest of society when their “heroes” let them down yet again.
