It’s as though in becoming a parent yourself, you become a parent to all children.
And eventually, maybe even to your own parents.
My Mum has to be fed and changed, and talks to her teddy-bear just like my daughter did when she was a baby.
This evening, for the first time, she even called me Mum.
    I can’t bear it.

Pretty much been there myself Bee. Hang in there, and remember you can only do your best. Take care.

Going back a bit, the F6F Hellcat. Arguably the most successful naval aircraft ever (see Wiki) did the job it was designed for perfectly (ie mastering the new Japanese fighter types, built in only 2 major variants, and yet it disappeared relatively quickly after WWII and is seldom remembered the same way as its more glamorous contemporaries.

I suppose the real failure, although unimagined at the time, has been the replacement of strong, practical courses and qualifications with a variety of pointless and useless degrees of little more value than the paper they are inscribed upon.

I heard a girl on the radio the other day demanding free university education. Turned out she was actually an unemployed graduate, and when asked what kind of job she’d like, she responded “Erm… I don’t know really. Drama Therapist or something like that…?” Makes me seethe that these people expect the rest of us to pay for rubbish like that.

The soon to be ex Mrs BSG-75. Kids pet dies, so rather than call me and ask me to tell them gently as they are with me, we bump into her in the supermarket after school and she just blurts it out to our little girl, cue tears and upset. Son comes out of school, little girl tells him before I can say a word, cue upset….

    so, a few hours later…. all calm…..

Still, Jan 19th is “absolute” day…….

And I thought it was us blokes who are supposed to be the insensitive ones???

The house I currently live in was built just pre-war but at the end of the garden there’s an empty plot where a house must have stood – and to the side a couple of post-war houses have been built. I can only assume that this must have been the result of a stick of bombs,

Reminds me of Bill Gunston saying how as an RAF Cadet he was detailed to show a young American around town, and pointing to a gap in a row of terrace houses told him that was where a Luftwaffe bomb had fallen. “Gee” the American said in all seriousness, “Lucky it missed those houses either side.” BTW, does anyone know what Bill Gunston is up to nowadays; retired, I guess?

Nice pics, everyone. Still can’t believe we will now have to discuss the Harrier in the “Historic” forum though…
