You know I am all for equal rights for both men and women in any governing office but without deviating and making this thread into something else I would like to stress the poor judgement women in office have made regarding defence issues. Britain is again a victim but they did not learn from the slashing of the New Zealand armed Air Force by a governing woman who deemed it as “unnecessary!”. UK is slacking and I am afraid that they would cut such as drastict amount that its force would not be effective anymore. What if the Argentinians invade the Falklandsa gain, can UK keep forces in Iraq and Afghanistan to represent in true force?
Canada made a grave mistake. It would of been logistically smoother to operate the Eh-101 in that role since the Candaian navy already has them. I wonder what prompted the Canucks to buy those choppers….price?
You guys are sooo lucky to get the latest AFM mag….here in Los Angeles, I havent received my June issue yet. Snail mail. Great picture by the way!
Beautiful photos!
Nicely put TTp. This is the reason for having this thread. Us pilots are REALLY much like any other pilot in another country. Training, hours in a combat palne in a year, tactics on dogfighting are very similar to othe countries’. The main difference is having the technology advantage. If we use this thought can we say that our sailors and our army guys are they as good as an UAstralian sailor or a South African soldieror is that somparing to “apples and oranges”? Thnks fellas for all your responses they were very helpful!
It appears that this thread is going to a different direction. My intentions were to find out if the US combat pilot is/is not better than an ordinary pilot from (for example), Israel and India. I dont understand why some people use an AWACS platforn as being “unfair” in combat situations. Israel used them during the latter part of their wars again countries who are not as technological advanced as they are….yet Israel beat them 60 or 70 to one (Bekka Valley) against Syria. Now, if we step away from that force multiplier idea, is the US pilot as good, equally good, or better than a pilot from say…Israel or India? The reason I mentioned an exercise at the start of the thread is because force multiplier are usually not taken into account. They would just dogfight and test each other when US pilots visited other countries. I dont want to go on other tangents becuase I really DONT want to talk about..”but the AWACS are soooo unfair or well what about the Chinese and what about the Pakistanis or what about the South Africans durings their campaigns against Angola?” This thread is about how great are the US pilots against another pilot from Israel and India using past excersices as examples.
It appears that Ja Worseley is fair by making the above statement. My intentions is reveal the capability of the US military machine tested in real world exercise. I still want to know the outcomes of those match-ups between Israel and Indian forces. Does any one in this forum know?! Did Indian Flankers kik butt? Did Israeli jets beat the Us navy 20 to one or 30 to one? Thanks in advance fellas and I respect those who have tried to restrain themselves and won’t degerade the intergrity of this forum and others.
LOL….it’s like happy oatmeal for breakfast everyday!
Nice pics A-29….give more I am hungry!
Good question Dubya, this project highlights several possible outcomes and more questions in this market. Your question about the US marines having their own CH-53 replaced with this HTH concept, it probably would not happen when/if the HTH matures and reason is this. Sikorsky just finished the last company new build chopper for the Marines about 4 or 5 years ago and their CH-53 production run was for very long time….the infrastrusture and training and spare parts and logistics are already placed with years of experience in maintaining this aircraft. The US marines have kept this chopper in inventory for a while now and the only viable option is keep upgrading and improve on thier aircraft. Since the marines have continously improve the CH-53, it would be extremely difficult to completely replace this venerable chopper with a brand new design. It would be logistical nightmare! But…if the US and the Europeans co-operate and trade technolgies and share costs there is a very good possibility that the future CH-53 could incorporate some HTH technology. Just because the Us would not acquire it does not mean other countries would follow the same steps. As a matter a fact it is about time the Europeans come up with some competition in this market ever since the Super Frelon was retired from mass use. There are some countries who operate the CH-53 and have or have plans to replace it with a new design. Germany, for example, has express some feelings regarding this matter. They have an older an unimproved CH-53 and would probably make sense to replace it with the HTH. Japan uses the CH-53 in limited numbers. They use the mine clearance and I forget the other tasks, but they are going to replaced their Ch-53’s with the new EH-101. As far to your question about the US negleting other markets and incorporating new craft designed abroad, I think we would probably see more of these decisions. The army is seeking to replace their M-16 rifle and are going to use german technology for their future rifles. The navy right now is studying a new littoral craft(patrol boat) for homeland defence and the top 2 contenders are a Swedish and an English design built by American companies. The air force is seeking a platforn for the Common airborne sensor(local AEW) for homeland defence and the leading contender is Embraer with their very successful EMB-145 design. I hope I answered your questions from MY points of view and opinions. Cheers.
I doubt they would buy any Chinese aircraft in the future. As for Western aircraft, the Mexican givernment had major problems with the Huey choppers that came from the US. If it does decide to go with combat aircraft, Aero L-156 LCAC are a good choice specially if it had Israeli avionics fitted. The Gripen would be way too expenive and used F-5’s would be more likely to be used by the air force since there is an infrastured already establish for that aircraft. Another good possibility would be to acquire used F-16 to chase those drug trafficking planes. I recently went to Baja California (East cape) and saw brand new Mercedez utility trucks. I also saw a Mexican air force Mi-17… too bad I didnt have my camera handy. It seem that the Mexican government is updating their equipment from Embrarer AEW and Surface warfare planes to new trucks for the army and new patrol boats/corvettes for the navy along with a new cntarct to purchase Eurocopter Panther helicopters. I would love to see the air force with new combat types with the Chinese craft a possibility but not in the near future.
I is going to be very interesting tosee who is win the fighter contract for Singapore. Of the three candidates shortlisted, Rafale, Eurofighter and F-15, I think that Eurofighter is going to win the competition. Albeit, I want the rafale to win.
Nice!!!!! Any pictures of the elusive Saudi/UAE/Morracan Panther naval helicopter? Thnx in advance.
Great pictures MoracMirage!!!! Have’nt seen those….you got any more rare photos like these?
Thanks for the excelent replies from all of you guys! Nice pictures too. If Eurocopter does venture in to this heavy lift concept, what would happened to the big copter market? Would eurocopter take take this market by storm with this new product or would it flop? It would be interesting to see this project mature because the heavy lift amrket is mainly dominated by the US with its Ch-53, Chinook and the new Osprey. On paper the HTH looks very good with great performance data and it looks good for such a large aircrat. Thanks again fellas and welcome FightingIrish to the forum!
