Whatever he claims, there is no money for more F-35s simply.
And your evidence for that assertion is?
You’re obviously entilteld to your opinion (and that is all it is, an opinion and not a factual staement as you tried to assert) but I will take his word over yours until you can show me proof that it cannot happen, which of course you can’t.
Tell that to the Japanese Zero pilots
and you may also ask that to F-18 pilots when fighting for example F-22 or just about anything else,
@35AoA for example
I would think the former Zero pilots have all passed away by now but trying to apply WW2 thinking to modern air combat doesn’t really work anyway for a multude of reasons. Don’t get me worng, speed is important but it is not THE defining attribute that overrides all others when a combat aircraft requirements are layed down, and thats simply because air combat is not dictated by sheer speed alone.
No, not if the pilot has a fighter with inferior speed but superior agility.
Not wishing to be condescending but from that statememt I woild imagine you’ve never been around many fast jet pilots and served in an airforce. The bottom line is that it’s great fun to practice WVR and a necessary skillset but no sane pilot actually wants to go WVR when the real hostilities break out, non that i’ve ever worked with anyway. They all want to make the kill before being seen from as far away as possible and never be forced into a furball or dogfight as it is suicidal.
And speed certainly does not override all concerns either! I’ve really no idea where you’ve got that from but if it did airforces would all be wanting very high Mach aircraft such as the Mig-31. If you don’t believe me take a look at the requirements that were set for the current era of fighters and note how non of them required speeds in excess of around Mach 2 with many such as the Rafale and F-35 coming in below that Mach 2. I know of very very few pilots who ever got anywhere near maxing out the aircraft they flew.
UK : 40
Hi, recently it was stated by Jon Thompson who is the undersecretary at the Ministry of Defence that the UK purchase is likely to eventually rise to over 100 aircraft.
I also seem to remember a while ago it was announced that the plan was to reduce the Typhoon fleet by chopping some of the early and by then worn out models somewhere around the 2025-2030 timeframe and have F-35’s replace them.
and one thing i forget got to mention , while radar guide missiles can’t lock stealth fighter from very far that doesn’t mean they can’t lock at stealth fighter at all 😉 stealth # invisible so i think CUDA can lock at stealth aircraft from at least 1-2 km so it be use as a compliment to cannon 😀 and as they are hit to kill missile so they have no problem hitting target at very short range unlike normal missiles ( aim-7 , aim-120 );)
Hi, i’m not wishing to be awkward but perhaps its wise to leave proposed weapons such as CUDA out of these debates for the moment as we simply do not know anywhere near enough about it at this time to even hazard a guess as to what situations it will be of most use in and how effective it might be, thats if it even gets produced at all of course. Thanks.
I agree, but an engagement on a 1-2km distance sounds awfully like a dogfight to me. Ain’t that exactly what the F-35’s makers were trying to avoid at all cost?
Every fighter pilot with an ounce of sense wants to avoid a dogfight or worse still a furball at all costs in a real war as it is quite simply the most dangerous situation that a pilot can put themsleves in no matter how modern and agile the aircraft that he/she might fly.
Just a quick something to add, when talking IR missiles or IRST’s against the F-35 one must take into account the F-35 uses a system where the aircrafts fuel is used to cool various hotspots such as the the leading edges.
How effective this cooling is would obviously not be public knowledge but I would very much doubt they’d plumb in such a system if benefits were only very slight.
Also, the F-35’s engine is pretty well buried within the fuselage unlike many other aircraft which should aid in reducing the IR signiture from many angles.
1)
2) I provide also some facts:
-F-117 was shoot down in 1999.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_F-117A_shoot-down
-LM gives number :
“record of 72 victories with 0 losses”
http://web.mit.edu/mgr/Public/to%20print/F-16%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf
As I said earlier this is not the true…

I know F-16C/D blk 52+ is just great multirole fighter, but why this propaganda “undefeated” etc ?
Hi ff1987,
I would like to point out that the PDF for the F-16 fact sheet you have linked to is not the current F-16 fact sheet that LM has on its website but an older version. Here is the current factsheet / brochure. (It took a while to load for me but it’s there.)
