    That is terrific help – thanks to all (and hi there Andy). OK, a bit (no pun intended) more . . . the gent who brought this to my attention said that it was found in the vicinity of Dunkirk. So obvious questions become what type of a/c used those types of early Merlins, and were any lost in that area at the time such engines were in use. Hope I asked that right. Best regards, Steve
