“there was a million-to-one tragedy involving him and – correct me if I’m wrong – his brother in law)”

    Beermat,

Thanks for the warm welcome, and your memory is correct. I have to assume the story is accurate, or someone would’ve come forward to refute it long ago. And it’s not the sort of thing one asks his family to confirm. Yes, it may strain credibility with some, but there are any number of tales in the book which fit that mold.

As to your questions about content and/or structure, I must regrettably pass. I’m still working it all out myself, anyway. It’s quite dynamic at the moment (I’m sure you know what I mean) and subject to change until it’s locked down into a shooting script. And even then sometimes things get changed. But discussing the “guts” of what I’m doing is almost certain to invite debate over my choices, which isn’t really why I’m here. I would have asked the same thing though. 😎

    Sealand,

Thanks, and good to know about those aircraft. Would like to know more if you want to PM me.

“..sounds like you’re planning a thoughtful, accurate and exciting film. Can’t wait!”

Thank you TT. I’m an aviation enthusiast myself (as I mentioned in the other forum) and I’m writing this from that perspective, although this group is far more knowledgeable than I. When I write aircraft and/or dogfight sequences, it’s for us. That said, Tuck was a human being. I’m endeavoring to convey that as well, and it’s largely Tuck’s family I have in mind for those scenes. The challenge will be to strike a balance.

“I presume it’s a bit early for any idea of a timescale for release”

Yes it is. There are many variables here. Good news is, there is tons of interest in the project, and many important “entities” have come forward to offer involvement. Mostly they’re just waiting for me to complete my script, but a finished film is by no means a certainty. Some of you may have heard that Peter Jackson’s “Dambusters” has run into trouble, and George Lucas’s “Red Tails” production has gone past it’s scheduled date of completion. Movie projects are fickle and unpredictable.

Edited to add: The process of my obtaining the option to the book is a remarkable story. My wife and I often marvel at how fate seemed to have a hand in getting this rolling. In truth, it never should have gotten this far. It was almost as though Tuck was extending his “luck” from the grave to get his story told. That gives me hope for the project, and eventually I’ll relate the story here.

“have you spoken to his nephew? I have his email if you need it.”

I haven’t spoken to his nephew, but I imagine everyone in the family must be aware of the project by now. I’d be happy to talk to him though.

“…if I may suggest, you can also try pprune.org…”

Thanks for the welcome! Actually, I started a thread there under the heading “Battle of Britain film”. Some details of what I’m doing can be found there, as well as some interesting comments and replies:
