I have read that Pete Jackson is in negotiations with the film company about a film version of ‘The Hobbit’. So it ain’t over yet. I can’t see them doing anything else by Tolkein, the Simarilion is the kind of book that when you put it down you don’t want to pick it up again.
Still nobody said he was perfect and could do no wrong. The Simarilion is not strictly speaking ‘a bad book’ its just hard going and its difficult to see the point of it.

Phil FosterFortunatly there’s plenty of US- Americans in real world with whom I can discuss in a more civilized manner. Who knows, some we have here in the forum might not be like this in real world either. It seems to be sort of a game for them as you have pointed out correctly.
I could be accused of being bullish myself. If I think somebody is making unfounded comments about my country I do have a tendency to bite back. Who is to say they can’t do it as well? We are all capable of it and I’ve got a lot of friends in the USA, some think bullishly some are more pragmatic but I can talk with them on an equal basis, I can articulate my thoughts to all of them without being vilified or insulted. They might not agree with me and sometimes they think about my opinions and then tell the story from their own viewpoint but they never insult me. Well if they do it is strictly tongue in cheek. Not when you criticise and nor when you disagree. They discuss and they are possibly the most forthright and honest people I have ever had the fortune to talk to. This is the America I love and I mean that word without being sycophantic either but these are real friends and not a target to be insulted. They are good people, no different from anybody else. 🙁
Unfortunately you will come across others who, as we have both pointed out think it is some sort of game to verbally attack you if your interests are similar (in this case military aviation) and you don’t think the way they do. If you disagree you are automatically a target and they will not back down or admit that insulting others is not the way forward. This is the America I get angry with. 😡 Make no mistake if they start I will join in. If they don’t like it they should speak to the moderator.
This is however not a peculiar American trait, it is a human one, it just so happens that the USA ‘is’ the most powerful nation on Earth and ‘some’ Americans are getting drunk on its implications.

The point is this, this is Singapore buying the planes not any of the countries that manufactured the above planes…just like in Korea. The only reason the F15 and F16 became what they are today is because of hundreds of millions of dollars of further development and hundreds if not thousands of airframes latter…unless Singapore is willing to wait and PAY for the development of the Typhoon and to lessor extent the Rafale for more A-G caps. The Typhoon is a totally non-starter here and the downselect will be once again the Rafale and the F15E derivative. Now, all this talk about bias and such…but without looking at what the customer want and start talking what they should get is already the greatest prejudice in this case isn’t it? Like Korea, Singapore want a A-G bird first then with good A-A caps. They’re going to replace their A-4s…last i recall A-4s are A-G before A-A also. When the EFA chooses a mechanically scanned radar with the claim that it’s the best of the “proven” technology many pro EFA people buys that, but when it comes to American airframes… “well America=Bad irregardless”

They are already A2G capable they are simply testing and evaluating all of the different weapons that can already be mounted and targetted. Like I said they are expanding the A2G capabilities, its a new aircraft you can’t just chuck any weapon on it and expect it to work without testing it first just what kind of aviation enthusiast are you? Now tell me about the air to ground capabilities of the F22 for example, sorry the F/(A)22. Quick name change there before congress cut the order anymore than they already have.
