I would appear that I have put my foot it! Sorry Mark 12. Certainly got things in a muddle!Althought I think someone did mention that ML417 still retains some of her two seater fittings or am I wrong again?
I am also looking for Spitfire Vc JG891 .Last I knew it was in the Historic Flying’s hanger . Any ideas on how its status is at the moment.

A high back Spitfire has more classic shape some think .
TE311 was converted as so many others have been.

Has Spitfire TE392 always been a high back ? Also how many original parts does ML417 have in her wings. If not where did the wings come from?

    Nice pictures of the F6F
From what I understand ,the fuselage and centre section and other minor components are Lt Alex Vraciu’s aircraft. It was stored by Earl Rienert outside.Only having centre section and fuselage and on Landing gear. From there ,purchased ,and rebuilt by Fighter Rebuilders.

What ever the arguments about the aircraft its nice to see one flying. There are only about 21 left and of those ,3 or 4 in flying condtion

Well, for my best /favourite warbird OFMC Spitfire MH434.But then I have to say that!
Why ,its been around for such along time and almost continuously airworthy or flying since WW 2.been in so many films and TV programs .About time it had a ‘This is your life’ dedication is’nt it?

Flypast Magazine September’s issue had great article on the La-9.Even a quick pilots report too. Nice one !!

The La-9 has the top speed approx.. 429 mph(not sure at what height) .The Bearcat (stock) is approx 421 mph at 19.700 feet.

I guess the La-9 would be hard pressed to keep up with the likes of the Rare Bear, which is pretty quick these days, around the plyons at Reno .Anyway why use such a rare beast as the La-9 to go around the desert. After all their are only about 5 survivors left in the world.

Can you imagine searching for ‘the Hun in the sun’ through all that metalwork? Awful

Well ,might be a bit confusing since he would not be searching for his own type of a/c to shoot down. They fitted better canopys later on .. late G and K series Me 109.

Thanks Mark, I could not remember who’s P-40 it was.The current OFMC P-40 has a fuselage fuel tank so no passenger option there.Did you take the picture in the 1980’s? The OFMC had the a/c for sometime then.

Nice picture Mark. I suspect that the picture is of Mr Hanna in the front seat of the P-40 .However I believe that this was the P-40 they had before The P-40 E they have now.

I am looking forward to the Hawk display .Shame about the La-9 though.
Is there a possibility for any additions to the line up before the airshow day?

Yes .. managed to get a copy of that one too!! Skip bombing in P-51’s. They had alot of fun shooting the sequences for the film.
They managed to take out a clothes line or two I believe:-).

Apparently in the original ‘Flight of the Phoenix’ a North American O-47 was used in the filming. This aircraft is owned by Ed Maloney of ‘Planes of Fame’ museum at Chino.
I am unaware of the status of the O-47 but I believe it had an accident sometime ago, perhaps 1970’s. Its seen as a very long term rebuild project.

I thought there were only two types of rudders for the Spitfire IX and XVI.
I guess the rudder on the Spitfire XII, XIV ,XVIII ,XIX,
21 and 24 could be different again.I am not sure where the intermediate rudder comes into it though 🙂 .

    Where are you Mark 12???

I subscribed to Warbirds Worldwide for some time.Even managed to get some of the back copies,as I started from issue 13.
The thing I enjoiey most from the subscription was the pilots reports from Jeff Ethell and of course Mark Hanna!

Any chance to get a copy or issue containing an article about Breitling Fighters or Mark Hanna I’d be very interested.
( I have replied to the previous post from James K:)

I remember Marks report on flying the Buchon in Memphis Belle movie remake.Sounded like lots of fun. ( I have a copy of that too)
