The P-51 ‘s were block -25 or -30’s I think.
Woopps… the Spit XIV I mean. The Spitfire TB863 arrived earlier, about 1989(?).

Referring to the Alpine Spitfire’s.. I went to that particular W.O.W(Warbirds over Wanaka.).The Spit XVI had first flown only days before in N.Z. Ray and Mark put on a fantastic display. Great to hear the Griffon for the first time.
The 1994 airshow was memorable. Two Spits Avenger and Zeke (ex OFMC) F4u-1 Corsair, another P-51… Great stuff!!
Forgive me but which airfield at Greenham Common .Is there any plans to reasemble the Spitfire and get her airworthy?Any ideas?
Does anyone know what happened to the Spitfire NH238.One of the ‘Arnolds’ Spitfires. Was it disassembled and put in to a container. That was the last I heard.
Nice picture! Shades of Empire Of The Sun there.
Airplane identification?… Where does the pilot sit?
As for the book.I suspect it will be quite a mission to get, but never say never.
The P-51 Mustang now flying in N.Z is unfortunately not one or the original P-51’s from the batch of 30 received before the end of the war.It was purchased from John Dilley at Fort Wayne Air Services in 1984.
There is one flying in the U.K ‘Jainie’. It was purchased from Tim Wallis, who bought it from the Peter Coleman estate.
Well.. its the wrong green for a start 🙂 Any ideas where the Spitfire is now??
In my opinion I think the Shuttleworths Spit. V looks great.Even though it has a weathered look ,it still looks the part. Its an authentic colour scheme I believe?
It has old paint ,weathered and chipped paint here and there, but her maintainance and the way its flown and looked after which keeps here in good health for another generation to admire her.
Has’nt this thread come a long way since since Bograt asked about the pressurising scoop on the cowlings of PR XIX ‘s.
Paint one of them in THUM markings please BBMF.
I went to RAF Hendon museum last year. I thought the Spitfire MK1 had a nice colour scheme.( pre war, early war ?)
I also liked the Peice of Cake paint jobs.Yes.. not accurate, as well as later mark Spitfire ,but nice. But if those tv films/series pay for the up keep of the aircraft I am all for it.

Speaking of different colour schemes, does anyone know how Spitfire AR123 is getting along and will they be painting the MK 1 in the wartime colour scheme when it had strips on the engine cowlings. A OTU scheme of sorts.

P.s the size and colour of roudels and thing dont bother me too much.As for the markings on MH434 .They look great to me ..but then I am biased.
Poor old Mk732.Looked a bit worse for wear in the previous photos. Pitty about the a/c losing its 485 NZ SQN colours though.
Looks just as good with its camo markings prior to that too.
Whats wrong with MH434 markings at the moment though, I thought they were authentic from her WWII days?
Any thoughts?
