I’m not sure I was skeptical it would ever join the Indian Navy exactly. I was hopeful that good military sense would prevail over nationalistic politics, but, the proof is manifest that it didnt.
I still do not believe, for one second, that the private opinions of the Indian admiralty reflect the statement released thats quoted there and I never will. Vikramaditya has held back the cause of IN naval aviation at least a decade locking them in to STOBAR, and the same basic limitations they had with STOVL, just with a flashier fighter than SHAR. They, the IN brass, are well aware of this…as that ‘white elephant’ article demonstrated back in the day. The one thing thats undeniable though is that this ship certainly looks impressive…as any white elephant would!:cool:
What has Vikramaditya to do with Indian preference for STOBAR? Vikrant is also going to be STOBAR because of Vikramaditya? Is QE holding back the RN locking them into STOBAR? Are the rest of the Navies, including USN, who are going to use STOBAR with F-35, held back? What does a “flashier” fighter mean? Are you saying that MiG is no better than SHAR and worse than F-35 or they are all equally bad? What prevents using MiG-29 with CATOBAR, if that would have been the preference of the Indian Navy?
They are talking about Iribis which is sometimes also referred as Irbis. Do not know which name is correct. Anyway, they are talking about Project 971 (Akula/Shchuka).
IRBIS (ИРБИС) – Snow Leopard in Russian.
No, there were only two aft panels installed. Plankwood was covering the empty space of the front two arrays.
Poliment is a MFR and the shape is the same as in S-350 Vityaz SAM.
The radar on top of the mast is P-27 Furke-4.
So any news on when it will be heading out for trials?
Early July
First ship of the second batch of Gepard-class frigates will be laid down in june.
These two are expected to be the ASW version.
2020? By then Russia will be lucky to have any significant numbers of 4th gen submarines in service. The first Yasen only recently entered service and the Lada is still in development.
2040 may be a more realistic date to see these future subs finish development. That is, unless the Russian Navy doesn’t plan on replacing all their current subs with 4th gen ones, instead inducting only a small number and jumping straight to the 5th generation.
Severodvinsk is not in service yet, Alexander Nevsky being delayed into 2014, etc. Lada is accepted into limited service, certain trials still pending.
Bottom line Hallo…if you act like a bully then dont go screaming victimisation if someone accuses you of being a bully!.
That’s the essence of politics. First you place your missiles (or a couple of CVBGs) next to your “best enemy” and then scream victimisation when you get the same in reply. :diablo:
Take with a big grain of salt. Especially the 13 hundred km AShM and anti-satellite interceptor. :diablo:
Thats just pure speculation.
Russians have been helping India with nuke sub tech from much before Gorky deal was first thought of.
Exactly. ATV history can be traced back to 1980s. But the 10 year lease of K-152 is a different matter.

Belgorod officially laid down as new research sub 🙂 .
I suppose the term should be “re-laid”, as she was already laid down in 1992 as a 949A project. 😀
Dude, seriously, if they’re going back to producing Kilo’s that new Lada class of theirs must really suck.
Well, of course it does. :diablo: To certain extent it is on par with 1244 corvet, which was a flap just because there was too many vapourware to be introduced on it.
