Hello Snake65 , One query for you , are you aware about the status of 9M100 system ?

Does the system uses both IR and ARH missile which is latest variant of R-73 and R-77 ?

    Thanks

    Cancelled.

    Thank you both very much.:)

My other question; what are the black squares on the exhaust of the Stereguschy upgrades in Austin’s pics?

    Heat dispersors.

Two modes for Furke are search (longer range) and track (shorter range).

    ERS for fighter – 1 sq.m, for AShM – 0.02 sq.m

Detection range of fighter 30-75 km, detection range of AShM 10-14 km.

Victor class only had a single-shaft propulsion.

As for duel-everything, it is complex and require the double work compared to a single-reactor. In the case of silent operation for N-powered subs, they have to worry more about the pumps & turbines rather than the N-reactor as such. Proper mounting & precise configuration of the working machines will eliminate the NVH that can filter out of the hull which helps other subs to listen. Also, out of axis makes much NVH & a resulting breakdown in the long run. So it is one of the main things to be considered when so much of coupling is around. In short it is not impossible to have a decently silent submarine and if I’m not wrong they did achieve higher levels of silence in the later-on series with improvements….

Charlie, Alpha, Sierra, Mike and Akula all were/are single shaft. Less pumps and other noisy machines – the better. If the reliability of the powertrain and other operational requirements allow….

The Kuznetsov inherits its propulsion system from the Kiev class: 8 KVG high-pressure boilers, 4 steam turbines, 4 shafts. It has always been troublesome even in the Kievs and every ship in the class has had at least one major boiler fire. The Vikramaditya only differs by having its boilers refurbished and converted to use diesel instead of fuel oil.

Well, the boilers seem to be the main problem, not the steam turbines. If the boilers are new and Indian Navy pays necessary attention to quality of boiler water and teams, should work. At least it won’t be worse than De Gaulle.

What about the Furke radar? Have they got the problems fixed?

Furke doesn’t have problems as such, it does what’s said in it’s specification. The problem is that it’s unsuitable for it’s role on the second hull of 20380 which has ARH Redut SAM. Furke just isn’t accurate enough to act as target acquisition radar for AR missile, it’s not able to provide guidance data to get 9M96 close enough for the seeker to lock on target. This is not so crucial with Kortik missiles because they have command guidance. The strange thing is that Russians have TWO excellent TAR’s – Positiv M and Fregat MAE-4K. Why the hell did they chose Furke….

I see Thanks , so what is wrong with 20380 corvette ?

Nothing really wrong. A bit oversized due to requirement for helicopter, hard to produce quickly and in volumes due to the fact that the all-pastic superstructure is produced by a single plant only, not the best powertrain, Kolomna diesels are really heavy for a relatively small ship. It’s bits and pieces.

Snake65 is there a good chance we might see Lada entering serial production in couple of years or is this project doomed to be a failure ?

I am quite sceptical. Too many unproven and highly advanced things put into single basket. I’m afraid that lada may become submarine counterpart of Pr.12441 Novik.

So where will the rotating APAR come from? I’m assuming the amateurs won’t be developing one themselves. Or is it Furke?

    Vapourware.

Snake65 which ship is this and can some one identify the weapon system ?

That’s one of the projects for the recent OAK corvet competition. Done by an amateur.
The weapons are 2×2 57mm (non-existant), milimeter range rotating APAR for FC, short range SAM is Tor, long range is Redut + any othe rmissile which fits in the bigger VL module.

Snake65 , for a long time it was thought those beams were used for construction , good to see Podberezovik-ET1 on Vikram.

The position though seems unusual to have the radar out there ,its a long range air search radar and should ideally get a favorable height and unobstructed view for 360 * search , it seems though it would cover just the frontal arc 180* while the other half will be blind to this radar , unless they have another similar radar at the back.

Fregat though have a nice view though for air search it will be less capable radar.

There should be second one to cover aft sector. But will not.

Wow, nice pics, what is that large radar under the large circular one? Looks like the same massive one on the Kerch.

    Also, gotta love Russian weather.

In that case I’m a little dissapointed, because it’s a dated system which has since been supplanted by newer variants of the indigenous UHSUS sonar suite.

Newer doesn’t necessarily mean better. EM versions are partly digitalized in signal processing, otherwise relying the original sonar array.
