Snake65 . any updates on upgrade program for these subs , I rember you mentioned that there is a chance that new Oscar2 could be built from unfinished hull any news on that ?

I’m afraid not. They have started to dismantle Belgorod, meaning that two floated unfinished hulls are also doomed.

What they are going to get in nearest future is both 11540 frigates and one 775 BDK.

    Stealth ironclad…

Exactly what I had in my mind 😉

Well, you could easily have a version with just the OTO and one large 40 round VLS farm (or a cluster of several smaller, seperated farmr). Would this lessen some of your concerns?

Wondering how that risk is perceived for e.g. Spruance/Kidd/Tico, as well as Burke and derivative ships. KD2 has a set of 4 Mk41s (plus space/weight reserved for 4 more) and the main gun forward of the bridge as well.

Relax, Jonesy wants a stealth ironclad:D

Mmm, yes, I would agree it suites them too. It applies basically to all decaying empires.

Spain, Greece, Italy, France and UK? 😀

Please explain. According to Wiki there are several Akula hulls built at Amur after 86, all considered improved Akula 1’s. Why are they not built to Akula II standard? Do you have a trustworthy source with list of which Akula’s are built at Sevmash and who is built at Amur? According to several sites Nerpa started construction in 86, if truth i doubt she beeing an Akula 2…….

Hulls of Vepr’ and Nerpa were too advanced in construction to incorporate changes we see on Gepard, but equipment-wise they are on par with Gepard.

There is no such thing as an export version of Akula 2. This boat is on loan, not sold to the Indian Navy.

I doubt it to be an Akula 2, remember this boat is an unfinished Akula for the Russian Navy, construction started in 86. The Akula 2 has a 3.7 meter longer hull compared to the Akula 1, for a quieter propulsion system. The Nerpa is most likely what is described as an improved Akula. I am also questioning if the Russian Navy really would give away the latest submarine technology, even to a good weapon export customer like India.

Nerpa is Amur SSZ counterpart of Sevmash’s Vepr’

This pic shows two Strut Pair on an Udaloy, one on each mast. Hi-res Have I correctly understood that 3R95 comprises Podkat (rotating back to back dual parabolic antennea at the top) and Cross Sword (slab planar antenna at the bottom)? Or is the whole complex 3R95 referred to as Podkat in Russian and Cross Sword in NATO parlance?

    Anybody?

FCS for Kinzhal is 3R95. The target acquisition radar on it just looks like Podkat. Topaz is a separate entry and Podkat is a different radar as well, although the antennae look similar.

    Thanks Snake!

BTW, could you describe some basics on “Kolchan”, like, per example, name of the fire control radar (Is Podkat retained?), name of the missile, and if possible, some basic specs, like max number of fire control channels for different targets, and so?, did Kulakov received Kolchan?, Severomorsk?, no idea to implement it on the 1555 surviving fleet?.

    Is 9M100 VLS launched R-77?

Have you heard any comment regarding “Vigneta-EM” towed sonar on 20380?, is this a Morfizpribor product isn’t?, how did the russians compare it with CAPTAS-Nano of Thales UWS?

Any comments on the decision of why Lira was encomended to Rubin instead of Morfizpribor?, why to risk so much important project?

Once again – Podkat has nothing to do with fire control of Kinzhal. Podkat is a dedicated low altitude search radar. As first ships of 1155 class did not get Kinzhals installed, and there was no specific radar for FC there, Podkat was mistakenly associated with FC of Kinzhal.
Fire control unit in Kinzhal i 3R95, Kolchan – 3R95M. Kolchan uses more advanced 9M331 missile.
9M100 is NOT a VLS launched R-77. Better have a look at the two new AA missiles revealed at MAKS-09.
Vinyetka is a product of Okeanpribor:

Power-struggle within Russian MPC is unbelievable – budget financing is scant compared to USSR and number of competitors is still high.

What is the missile supposedly to be used on Kre’post?

Because, 180 Km, as RMAX, doesn’t sounds correct, taking into account the RMAX known for the 48N6 missiles used since S-300PM, and adapted to Fort-M.

Would Redut use only the 40 Km-range 9M96?, many sources (including you) have explained that 20382 will use 9M96, and 20350 will use 9M96D (120 Km)

BTW: Is Positiv-M2 taking the role of MCGU for the 9M96 missile on Soobrizatelny?

What about the problems with Sigma command and control system on the 20380?, resolved for 20382?…why no new keel laids since two years for this project of SKR?

Is new Kinzhal derived from Tor-M2?

Dmax for 48N6 is limited by guidance not the energetic resources of the missile, Krepost’ allegdly provides guidance for longer distance.

    Redut can use 3 missiles – 9M96 (40km), 9m96M (120km) and 9M100 (10km).

Pozitiv-M1.2 and Fregat-MAE-4K are target acquisition radars for a variety of systems like Kortik, Palma, Gibka, Redut.

Sigma was working reasonably ok on 20380, we’ll see what happens with introduction of Redut. Priority is given to frigates now that Poliment is available at last. Frigate is an SKR anyway 😉

Kolchan is naval equivalent of Tor-M2.

    I think you mean Severomorsk.

By the way. What is the status of the follow on units of the Astrakhan? Also the second Tatarstan frigate?

    Severomorsk. My fault.
Everything is being built. Just really slowly, compared to export orders.

I’m personally confused with all the new naval SAM designations and specs – could anyone provide some sort of summary regarding the new ones?

Name / Range / Guidance / Platform (vessel type) would be sufficient.

    Gibka – 3 km – IR – 1155 (Adm.Kulakov), 21630 (Astrakhan’)
    Kolchan (Kinzhal upgrade) – 15km – r/com – 1155 (Severodvinsk – aft FCS)
    Palica (naval Pantsyr’) – 15 km – r/com – ?
    Redut (naval Vityaz’) – 40 km – AR – 20382, 22350
    Krepost’ (naval S-400 Triumf) – 180 km – SAR/AR – ?

    Enjoy.
