The first of Lada St. Petersburg started her trials in November 2005 and now we are hearing that it will be commisioned on 2010 , thats like more than 4 plus years , long time for a conventional submarine to be on sea trials , did they screw up something ?
The biggest challenge for Lada will be its Fuel Cell based AIP and its central new C&C module like western subs have.
It seems the first of German U-212 took about 3 plus years from launch to commision.
Yes, they did. The BIUS is not functioning properly and the new sonar is not even installed, meaning being far from ready. Currently the biggest problem is to modify the software to make the different bits of equipment made by different producers compatible. Otherwise the tests were OK.
Why only launchers on one side of YM then?
Because she’s on builder’s trials. After that, before the State Acceptance Trials, she’s going to be fitted with full pack. It was the same with Stereguschy.
Seeing some of the extra bells and whistles put on the Yaroslav Mudry, can we expect Neustrashimy to be refitted with these in due course as well?
Well… It depends when Neustrashimy is going in for mid-life repair. Availability of Uran’s is no problem any more:D
It was reported that Russian Navy is reviewing different compositions of airwings for the future CVs, including a mix of Mig-29K and upgraded Su-33/KUB and naval PAK-FA
I guess this one is the most recent
Well, what are you expected to do if a ship with SURTASS shows up 75 miles from your major sub base? I reserve my doubts that either Russian or US Navy will act with “white gloves”:diablo:
Yes, reported as the new ELTA AESA for Barack-8 SAM.
Sounds good 🙂 are you aware of any new Russian Towed Array , Active Low Frequency or Very Low Frequency sonar deployed or under development , both for surface ships and submarine ?
I believe the new Tail Sonar , are the Passive Low Frequency Thin Line Tower Array type ?
Minotaur (Vinyetka for export) is the VLF sonar for surface ships, I don’t have the name for similar design for subs
Thanks , what is unique of Gepard/Nerpa standard upgrade which is not present in previous 971 Akula 2 like Vepr.
Do they also upgrade the central C&C system , with some thing modern and digital , do replace those old CRT type with LCD display like those advertised for Lada Combat Information Center
Mostly it’s a new tail sonar and modified SOKS, fully digital comm system and new modifications of Omnibus BIUS and Molibden control and monitoring system (more modern electronic components mainly). Some improvements for silencing od equipment, designed for Severodvinsk and partially incorporated in last hulls of 971. Yes, LCDs are present 😉
Snake65 any idea on
1 ) How many have been refitted yet ?
2 ) How many do they plan too ?
3 ) What upgrade will these system go through ?
4 ) Will the reactors be refuelled ?Thanks
A couple of 971 insofar and one 949 (Omsk, last August). Irkutsk is under repairs in Pacific as well. The plans were for at least most of 949 and 971 in Northern Fleet and a couple of newer ones from Pacific, but this may be corrected by the current crisis. Anyway, full scale mod and rep effort was scheduled for 2010.The 971 should be upgraded to Gepard/Nerpa standard, 949 will get same sonar suite and comm. No decison what to do with Granit missiles so guess they will stay for a while. If funds permit, the may be exchanged for Onyx/Brahmos although I don’t see the point in that. Refuelling is one thing I’m dead sure.
Thanks
Can any one identify that submarine ?
Refit of Voronezh started recently;)
Scooter has also forgotten that his country’s airforce has shot down many US made fighters during the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict….by using Soviet made Migs.
Some people not only have a lot of bias, but also a very short memory :diablo:
Гыы
Good point!:D
Well, when a Russian aircraft ever shoots down a American or Western Type we will talk……………..
Korea and Viet-Nam, my friend:diablo:
And plenty of them.
Aircraft are flown by men, actually.
Thanks, I recognize some of them from Taifun almanakh in Russian;)
What is the source of those translations, Austin?
