Actually, 02668 is the first true mine-hunter, not mine sweeper in Russian Navy. There were a couple of ships in Soviet Navy with Ketmen towed ROV but they were considered not too succesful. 02668 is capable of head-on operations (instead of stern sector operations on previous ships) using Livadia-M minehunting sonar, Diez automated minehunting C&C system and a new ROV. Zakharyin is just a test ship for this equipment. It’s not something top-notch but by far the best they have got. Almaz has prepared a new minehunter 12700 but building it is at the bottom of priority list.

I hope they have taken the opportunity to re-design the main mast into a cleaner, enclosed structure as seen on Pr.20380. Would likely help its signature quite a bit, especially if they really did get rid of the conventional SAM launcher in favour of a VLS.

We’ll have to wait till end of next year when the first hull should have most of the superstructure in place. Lately Yantar webpage is updated quite often…

Right, just below the left side of that rear radome. There’s a bunch of small domes added around the rear mast too, aside from Monolit.

    That bunch is TK-25 ECM.

There should be some light bulbs too then, don’t you think?

Possibly there is, just aft of the funnel. Although, I’ve heard an opinion that the bigger radome is Koral satellite datalink and the radome aft of funnel is Centaur satcom.

In the Talwar class, the Garpun B radar is placed on the rear and is enclosed with a radome similar to the Mineral’s in shape. I’m likely to think its the Garpun-B or -Bal since that is the radar used to direct Urans on such ships like the Delhi. Or it may be the Cross Dome/Pozitiv radar like in the Neustrashimy and Gepard class, also used to direct Urans, which can placed in the front or rear location and uses the same radome structure.

Anyway, a lot of radars can use a dome like that, and such a dome can house any sort of radar.

If you look at this pic of the Sovremenny 956EM, you will note the Mineral ME to the front and a similarly shaped but not exactly the same sized radar on the rear. This second radar only appears from the 956EM and not with the earlier ships, and I suspect might either be a Garpun-B or Pozitiv-E.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sovremenny_bridge.jpg.

In Talwar class Garpun-Bal is placed on the top of bridge without any radome. The radome on hangar top both in Talwar and 956EM AND Jaroslav is Pozitiv radar of Kortik FC module. That’s why I said that radome at the base of the main mast is Monolit and there should be another on other side. Obviously, they didn’t find a better place for it, possibly due to EM interference.

Talking about the Neustrashimy class? 2007? According to fas.org and several other sources the third Neustrashimy was launched in 96-97..

Sorry, that’s what the yards gen. manager said a week ago. Actually, it will be more accurate to say that the third hull was “re-launched” in 2007. Around the time you indicated the hull was launched to free the slip. Around 2005 it was again placed on the slip and finished to the current state, then launched again.

I think there is one more in construction. Planned? I don’t know.

Third hull was launched in 2007,currently the ship is 47% ready. Plans? Guess this is the last one, next one in Yantar will be 22350.

The 96% may be for hull and machinery. It certainly hasn’t AK-630 installed (just turrets without guns) and place for Fort VLS is also empty (only FCR installed). This is what I know for sure. It may well lack some of the internal systems like Corall satellite targeting system or Lesorub CIC. Practicaly the only place where it can be finished is the overloaded Sevmash, because SPB wharfs are in the state of move/reorganization (or should I say disorganization?).
The good news for Russian Navy is that Jaroslav Mudry has been finished building and is scheduled for sea trials in March, 2009.

Right you are, Shaposhnikov, not Malinovsky.
Peter the Great and Adm. Chabanenko have already sailed today for Venezuela, accompanied by couple of auxilaries.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Marshal Ustinov suffered an engine fire that cost the life of 2 seamen, confirming her reputation as the worst-kept and worst-trained vessel of the Pacific Fleet. She returned to base and the damage is estimated at 15 million RUR (something like 700 thousand USD).

Marshal Ustinov is a Pr.1164 cruiser serving in Northern Fleet. The ship in the news was Marshal Malinovsky, Pr.1155 ASW destroyer. It had a failure in the engine room (rupture of high-pressure tubing). Repairs will take at least couple of months, but 1155 for now are the backbone of the Pacific Fleet, therefore I have no doubts it will be repaired.
