And some not so great Analysis

“The ships represent most of Russia’s seaworthy surface fleet, and the bombers are hopelessly outdated.

Nato may find itself having to go to the rescue of some of the craft before the operation is over. “

Insofar, no accidents or incidents haven’t been announced not only by Russians but also by everpresent NATO “shadows”.
Tu-160 – hopelessly outdated? Against which AD?
Sure, Kuz is the sole CV, but there’s only about 20% of seaworthy cruisers and escorts:D

UK is getting REALLY nervous, isn’t it?

If You’ll change name of Krivak 3 to Воровский, it will be almost perfect:diablo:

14 are MPA or strategic recon planes, rest are on Kuz. Russia has less than 20operational Su-33 left, there are 13 or 14 of them on board, so the rest of the wing is 3 Su-25UTG and others are Ka-27.

You are correct, it’s Malakhit design bureau P-550 et al subs, smaller than Amur though.

What else to expect with incompetent and untrained crew? Northern Fleet exists in harsh environment with insufficient coastal infrustructure. This also eats away the endurance of the ship.

I am guessing all 5 Delta IV’s will be upgraded while the Delta-3’s will get replaced by Borei’s.

All 6 will be upgraded for carrying R-29UTTH Sineva missile. Borei will go to Pacific Fleet first, replacing Delta3

    Now that sounds interesting RSM-55!.

Is that thing based on MGK-608 floor based sonar surveillance system? I heard about that system on Rosoboronexport site, and some russian sites suggest it entered into service…

Could you comment more on it?, what about technical capabilities?, feel free to add anything you can don’t want to put you on problems if the topic is sensitive, althrough I have to admit I’m deeply interested…have been such a system (MGK-608) exported?

MGK-608 was designed in 1996 by NII “Atoll” located in Dubna. Currently the sonar is located near Severomorsk and is operational, at least in 2007 contract for maintenance and spare parts was issued.

    RSM,
Accepting that would also force him to stare down the barrel of the cold, hard, fact that there is currently no nation on earth capable of reliably localising, identifying, tracking and attacking a CVSG that is trying to avoid detection.

Doesnt suprise me a bit. Ties in with the GLONASS focus as well. Before you commence any warfighting the basics MUST be in place. The basics being a knowledge of precisely where your platforms are and a knowledge of where the opposing forces are – Navigation and Surveillence!. Nice that, after so many decades, they have finally got the cart tied up behind the horse!.

HALE UAV’s like GlobalHawk have a collosal contribution to make to the field of ocean reconnaisance/marpat. The bigger HALE platforms with more onboard power generation lifting Searchwater 2000MR class multirole radars could be supremely useful for theatre search and, with SAR-spot modes, classification with impressive endurance and, unlike satellites, the ability to circle to maintain a position-of-interest!. Dont see whay you class them as stoopid??.

Could you possibly indicate a way for CVSG to avoid detection by SSN short of stopping engines and trying to submerge:rolleyes:
That’s exactly what Legenda was about. It’s not that many decades that it’s inoperational – ten to 15 years at most. Not surprising that Russians are trying to get one of their most valuable assets back into action.
Aren’t HALE UAVs much more vulnerable than satellites because of that?

Do You have NATO name for Kliver?
Regarding Rif, it’s an air search radar on Pr.41 and was also planned for Pr.56 but didn’t meet the expectations and was replaced by Fut-N.

I’m too lazy to draw arrows on photos, so you’ll have to do with diagrams explaining where to locate the aerials on ship photos.
Zaliv is No.18 on the drawing of Project 58 and Kantata-M (that’s the name for Wine Flask/Glass) is No.17 on Project 1144.2.

Too bad. Always sad to see a ship go. Why was she stricken, yet the Vice-Admiral Kulakov has spent the better part of a decade doing not much and is in refit?

Was Admiral Zakharov really scrapped in 1992?

While we’re at it, what ever happened to the Scorpion Patrol Craft, Pr. 12300?

    http://www.warshipmodels.com/~users/Neptune/Skorpion.JPG

You should really ask Masorin about that, I find it quite incomprehensible to restore Kulakov and Ochakov and scrap Vassilevsky.
Zakharov was scrapped for real as it was just a burnt-out hulk.
Scorpion was layed down in 2001 and still is in the works but seems that it may follow the fate of Borodino (ex-Novik).

    Snake65,

Do you know the status of the Udaloy class ship MARSHAL VASSILEVSKY?

I learned that she may be retired, or placed in reserve this year.

    Stricken 10 February, 2007

This is R-71 from Black Sea Fleet. In 1989-1992 it was used as testbed for Kortik CIWS. The “box” contained control and recording equipment for tests.
