Finally a pic of the Pr.11990. 🙂
But does anyone know anything about Pr.1293 (or 12930?), which was also supposed to be a nuclear-powered carrier escort?
When the first 1144 (Kirov) was already on the slip an attempt was made to separate AA, ASu escort and surface strike functions once again, starting design of nuclear escort 11990 and nuclear strike cruiser 12930. The 12930 was a quite short lived afair, preferring conventional powered 1164 instead. Anchar had much longer life-span although on paper only.
Isn’t Uragan a bit short-ranged for an AAW carrier escort?
Depends. 😉
It was expected than carrier escort will include a ship with Fort (either 1144 or 1164), Uragans and Kinzhals had to deal with low altitude saturation attacks. Engaging low altitude targets is possible starting at 30-50 km, so the original 9M38 missile may have been somewhat short-legged but the newer 9M317 with a range of 40 km is quite adequate. Don’t forget also CAP on 1143.7, it would have been quite formidable, dealing with targets further out.
It’s an interesting design with nice lines reminiscent those of Udaloy. Correct me if wrong but does it have 2 Shtil launchers front AND 2 at the back (forward of helicopter hangars, next to rear stack)? How many Orekh total (8, 9, 12?)
QUOTE]
Yes, maximum number of channels for M-22 Uragan (export desihnation Shtil) is 12 and maximum number of launchers is 4 (96 missiles in total).
12000 tons, Anchar with was used as a basis for the study of two classes of future general-purpose designes. Well, if this ain’t somehow related to Udaloy class, I’m eating my hat. (Roel: your pics?)Just copy the webadress into babelfish.altavista.com and select french to english translation.
Well, Project 11990 Anchar was cancelled in 1990, so it has for sure something common to 1155 and 956, although it’s not “related” to them. The main reason why Anchar was discarded was abandoning of 1143.7 Ulyanovsk. As Anchar was intended to be escort to these CVNs, there was no further necessity to build such expensive escorts.
No way in 051C this is a steam turbined failure! I wish to be like your TsNII-1 project. Is the best choice for them. Much better and more economicaly to have a lot of eggs in a single basket.
If You put gas turbines in 051C, it’s a good interim solution until the Russian APAR is ready.
Like 052B? So it may be enlarger version of 22350 frigate? As i saw from Neptune’s photo with le metallic plate in keeling ceremony of 22350, is a small 052
If Russia will manage to restore the technology incorporated in Mars-Passat and whch was to some extent lost when Ukraine separated (Kvant enterprize which was the designer of that system is Ukrainian company) or manage to develop APAR technology incorporated in their new airborne radars the result may resemble 052C, if not it may be similar to 051C 😀
The image of russian “Spruance” that you post has any chance to be the future russian major surface vessel? The nuclear version of Granit “500kt” was strategic weapon? Withl onger range? The 500kt warhead was 2.5 times grater of the TLAM-N!!
Do you have any further information about the future russian DDG? Im convinced that will be much more different than UDALOYIII .
The “Multifunctional ship” is the CNII-1 project from beginning of 90’s, so it’s highly probable, that their current project goes along these lines. The Severnoye PKB project is more like Chinese 052C as the bureau was assisting China in designing this ship.
Granit was not considered a strategic weapon, even the nuclear tipped was short of 1000 km, the Russian term is “operation-tactic”.
Adm. Masorin was not very specific about the new DDG, the only number he mentioned was 8000 ton displacement.
Project 21956 was developed as upgraded UdaloyII but Russian Navy was not interested in the project (dire lack of funds I guess :diablo: ), so it was offered for export. The new DDG which is tentatively scheduled to be laid down in 2009 will be a different ship of course.
gents , is the 9M96E now available in a VL version suitable for 3500t FFG upward ? the diagrams posted shows its envelope as 40km range x 20km height.
the land based version was reported with 120km range, why is naval one shown with 40km only ?
There are two versions of 9M96 – E with 40 km range and E1 with 120 km range.
[I’ m building the “Admiral Nakhimov” in 1/200!! Using parts from Sovremmeny of trumpeter. What is the best technique for building the hull? “Bread and butter?” I saw in a magazine someone who builts MEKO360 in 1/100 only from plastic “pages” !!! The wood is very diffucultCENTER]
Does any one knows something about the “Fugas” project 1165?? http://vmk.vif2.ru/fleets/Russia/projects/Battleships.files/Russian_projects1.htm A real battlship!!!
Is it a chinese animation trick of a real project. If I scrued up again and if I didn’t manage to post the image again, go to http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/295465[/QUOTE
Information on 1165 is very scarce. In mid-70s it was merged with 1144 Orlan which was the first Soviet attempt to make a DDN. After the merger Granit missiles were introduced in 1144 instead of Malakhit and the displacement started to grow.
The 1157 CG is a totally fictionary ship, as the real Project 1157 was an intelligence gathering ship.
BREZHNEV, actually I’m a bit older than You being 41. :diablo:
Regarding the pictures of the “Multirole ship” I posted, the project was started in 1987 as a follow on for 1155 and 956. Standard displacement 6500-7000, 33 knots, 1×1-130, 2 CIWS, 96 VLS, 2 helos. This could well be the basis for the new destroyer of 8000 t which Adm. Masorin was mentioning couple of times.
Regarding the info in French site, only the first picture is 11990 Anchar, it’s the version with nuclera plant combined with boost gas turbine. The second pic is Project 13040 “evaluation and training ship” (that’s the closest I can translate it’s Russian name). It was designed at the same time as Anchar but was smaller at only 6000 tons. This ship had to evaluate modular concept for powertrain, weapons and electronics. In the beginning of 90s development of modular equipment was stopped, so was this project as well as Anchar. The Novik frigate was the last known attempt to use modular equipment.
The P-900 Alfa You are talking about is 3M51 (export designation 3M54E) which has 3 stages – launch stage, subsonic cruise stage and supersonic attack stage. This is one of the Kalibr (dubbed Klub for export) family of missiles, others being 3M54E1 which is essentialy the 3M54E without attack stage and larger WH, 3M14 LACM and 91R anti-sub missile.
How about this one?
Ok why then a picture of “not so sthealth” Project 205P (Stenka) class patrol boat  😉
Here You are 😀
Picture above is a dummy Sandbox.
@ Rails:
Those were not only used for mines, also for heavy maintainance equipment.
As far as I understand, the Kievs had NO reloads for the P-500.
The rails on the Kievs were used for loading in harbor plus maintainance.
The thingy above is nothing even close to a Bazalt (Sandbox) missile. See pic for the real thing. As I said in a post earlier, three first Project 1143 had 8 missiles in launch containers and 8 reloads in a storage room below deck. Although Gorshkov, the fourth ship of Project 1143, or as Russians refer to her Project 1143.4, doesn’t have reloads trading them for 12 missiles in ready to launch containers, the loading equipment was still used for easier loading of missiles into containers.
Most of the rails on Soviet/Russian ships were used for moving around of torpedoes and other heavy equipment while replenishing at sea from ships like “Berezina” complex replenishment ship (Project 1883).
Neptune, Gorshkov didn’t have reloads 😎
Kiev, Minsk and Novorossiysk had 8 Bazalt missiles in launchers and 8 more reloads. The missile storage room is No.14 on the diagram
