Just out of curiousity, what is the state of the Polish Navy. I remember the US sent them some Perry’s and I know the operated three/four Tarantul FAC’s and a Krivak (or an early Soviet frigate believe it was the “Warzawa”), are these ships still in good condition? I take it the Kilo’s are still in service and does anyone know if the Polish Osa’s were withdrawn?

    Thanks in advance

    Subs:
    1 Kilo class, pr.877E “Orzel”
    4 Kobben class (ex-Denmark) “Bielik”
    Surface:
2 OHP frigates “Kazimierz Pulawski” and “Tadeusz Kosciuszko”
    1 Pr.620 corvette “Kaszub”
4 Tarantul 1 class FAC “Gornik”
    3 Pr.660 “Orkan” FAC
    11 Pr.918M patrol crafts
5 Pr.767 medium landing ships “Krakow”

Well we dont know the stats of cancelled Grom , I am not sure if START has any details to provide , But I dont think the Dimension of Bulava and Grom would be much different , Or else they would have to redesign the whole launching complex/launcher on the sub.

Still even assuming the best case scenerio that Grom could carry 10 MIRV ( which i dont believe would have been the case ) , The sub carrying just 12 SLBM is still a far cry from what the Typhoon or Delta 4 could carry.

AFAIR, the missile was called Bark and it was direct derrivative of R-39 which was deployed on Typhoons and was weighing around 90 tons, so I have no reason to think it was having much less than 10 WH. Grom was the cancelled strategic cruise missile deployed on 1 Yankee-Sidecar.
Bulava is much smaller, I’d say in 40-50 ton weight bracket.

The missile initially intended for Project 955 was huge compared to Bulava which was finally accepted. Therefore, to go for reasonable displacement and dimensions, Russians sacrificed the number of missiles. This is exactly what they did 30 years earlier when they had to accomodate much bigger R-29 instead of R-25 – Project 667A (Yankee) had 16 missiles, Pr.667B (Delta 1) had only 12.

Unfortunately Bharat-Rakshak has been down all week.

If anyone has a line drawing or photo of the Talwar showing the sonar arrangements I would be grateful.

    Cheers

The Delhi sonar should look similar

Can anybody tell which one is this, I can’t see any pennant number. Possibly going for refit, that will also explain it’s quite worn state.

    Unicorn,
Platina sonar on Sovremenny is really not that big, the really protruding ones are Polinom on Udaloy and Zvezda on Neustrashimy. I haven’t seen a single photo of Delhi class underwater part, but judging that they use the same sonars as Talwar class, You can have a look at Talwar model, photo is available at Bharat-Rakshak website.

Stereguschy has started warf tests. The weapon suit may be changed – 8 Yakhonts instead of Uran and Kinzhal instead of Kortik.

According to the Israel Navy, Barak-8 will be compatible with the Lockheed Martin Mk 41 tactical-length vertical launcher system.

Could You post that drawing, Austin? I remember that before ChinaDefense forum went down there was a comparative drawing of P15 and P15A from Chinese magazine showing 2×12 VLS Shtil on P15A.

The “keel laying” of Admiral Gorshkov (pin), looks pretty strange with that gun in that spot. Looks like the old bow-chaser gun of WWII! Posted by Chit on Airbase.
The ship doesn’t look that big given she has only one funnel. Looks a bit like the Chinese new destroyers…
They seem to proceed with the put-all-weapons-in-front idea too.

This is about as accurate as a drawing of three-year old child. And the tactical number is a nice touch also. If You keep in mind the announced dsiplacement of 8-9kT, there’s really a lot of fish you can put between that gun and bridge

No one has so far confirmed whatever on P-15A. By confirming do You mean posting copies of design bureau blueprints, Navy or government documents? There’s a model of P-15A at Bharak-Rakshak website first displayed in 2005 with VLS Shtil. This is as far any confirmation will go until the ships has been commissioned. Barak8 doesn’t exist in a form of combat ready complex, of course, if Indians are going to delay commissioning of the first P15A for several years, Barak8 may be available.
