Not speaking for DP, but i think she means the rumours of pilots wages are untrue.
There were ‘rumours’ on UKAR not long ago that the pilots were on £50,000 – £60,000 wages and she denied those were true also.
Would be great to hear such a fantastic sound in the air once again.
I really hope one does make it back to the skies.
I can only add that although she flew on Saturday at Biggin Hill, she failed to materialise on Sunday. And two members of my party were only there to see the Vulcan.
If the aircraft is not safe to fly (which it certainly wasn’t), what do you want them to do? Risk the crew, aircraft and the public?
They do try and fix things, but in this case that was not possible within the timescale they had.
And for anyone thinks that serviceability was an issue last year, please look at the link HERE, and have a good read.
You’ll see that for an old warbird they did very well indeed. 🙂
PS: Just letting you know that hangar tours to see XH558 at Lyneham are now available. Please see HERE for details.
But if they pull it off and get the money right it could be a good thing but would they take the next step and fly it?
Not a chance. They’d need ridiculous amounts of money, not to mention non existent spares and support from Airbus, Rolls Royce etc etc.
Begs the question.. why not keep her active from the day she flew in.?.. saving time and extra effort needed to correct any deterioration through lack of use.
I always wondered why at least one Concorde was kept in a taxiable condition. I really hope they can do it now though.
And they expect the job done in 10,000hrs just goes to show the french can do it they ought to come here and work on this 4x engined lemon we have.
It’s all just talk at the minute though isn’t it. Things might not be so straightforward when it comes down to it.
And a 4x engined lemon is no way to talk about the Lancaster. 😀
Half way there!
‘Woaaahhhh, livin’ on a prayer!’
Work being done on the Guppy again last week. Seems it’s not all over yet!
Not sure about the ‘given’ bit! Robin Hood has charged a sum for hangarage all these years as any commercial business would !
The Vulcan could quite happily have operated from other airfields.
I am sure there are ways of the Vulcan operating her final flight in and out! If it’s such a massive problem maybe the answer would be to ask Elvington if they could donate it there and forget all the headaches of few thousand people decending on darkest Yorkshire !
I’m not suggesting they’ve had anything for free in any sense, but being at Robin Hood has meant they’ve had a decent hangar not only to maintain the aircraft in, but have been able to hold various public fund raising events in as well. From that point of view being at Doncaster has been a success.
Whether or not the Academy project will be a success is unknown, but there’s seems a lot of people writing it off without any real foundation to their argument at the moment.
Personally I’m not too bothered where it goes (or stays), as it’s doubtful I’ll ever see it again anyway, but I hope it can remain looked after in future, whoever’s hands that may be in.
It should never ever gone to that place, when there are people at Elvington and Bruntingthorpe that could make sure it was looked after.
They left Bruntingthope in the first place for various reasons and could Elvington have provided a hangar for them to work from? The ‘people’ at those places weren’t qualified to maintain the aircraft in airworthy condition either, so that was a non starter.
I wonder if when they started the return to flight venture that at the time of it’s last flight they would be asking permission from a Bl**dy airport in Yorkshire, Bonkers.
If it weren’t for that ‘bl**dy airport in Yorkshire’ then the final flight would have probably been years ago anyway. They couldn’t keep operating out of Lyneham and Brize and there’s no doubt that Robin Hood has at least given them a stable home from which to operate from for the last few years.

We appreciate a number of people came out to the airport and surrounding area today in the hope of seeing the Vulcan flyover the area.Unfortunately, due to safety reasons involving another aircraft we were unable to permit the Vulcan to take its planned route at the time scheduled, resulting in the Vulcan passing further away from its intended route.
We take the safety of our passengers, customers, local residents and staff extremely seriously and this was an instance when our team had to make a decision based on safety.
We’re sorry for any disappointment caused but hope you understand our reasons for the decision.
So not a deliberate snub from the Vulcan. Of course that’s still little consolation to the many who turned up, but it would be unfair to point fingers at VttS for this one.
The online info I have seen seems a little ambiguous.
Situation normal! And there still is no word on when the very last flight will take place. Surprisingly, I’ve seen very little comment about this – I would have thought that VUlcan fanatics would have been screaming for news by now.
My feeling is that the upcoming UK tour is going to be the last officially announced flight for the public to see the aircraft flying. They’ve already put out requests for people to stay away from Doncaster recently, so I doubt they’ll be saying much beforehand if there is to be one final flight, which I’d assume would be for the VttS bods and media only.
Interestingly though, Sun 18th October marks the eighth year since the first restoration flight, so if they’re going to have one last flight then I’d say that would be the perfect day to finish on.
I could as always be completely wrong, but it would be the logical choice.
Has she got home yet?
No, they appear to still be stuck in Iceland due to poor weather there over the last couple of days.
They anticipate finally returning to Hamilton on Sunday all going well.
Just had the two Lancaster’s pass overhead going in to land at Hurn. 😎
Oh and to top that lot off, the two Lancasters have just flown overhead with their gear down. :applause:
What a weekend!
Been treated to multiple sightings of the Canberra and two Hunters flying in and out of Hurn, the two Lancasters both arriving yesterday and the Canadian Lancaster doing pleasure flights around the area this afternoon.
Oh and I nearly forgot the Sea Vixen doing a super low level beat up of the airport on Friday before leaving for Yeovilton.
Wow, and it’s not all over yet…… 😎
Will be nice to have them back again, especially as VeRA missed the local airshow a couple of weeks ago with engine troubles.
