I would love to see it at one of the Duxford Airshows ,has it ever displayed there in the past ?

Yes, as mentioned it displayed there back in 2001. Sadly Duxford have snubbed it ever since for some reason.

Already booked to fly at the Portsmouth Air Festival it appears.

I look forward to seeing it up and about again in the summer, although it never ceases to amaze me how they afford to keep it flying.

Must cost an absolute fortune! 😮

The B.2’s were operational in the white finish for several years, and very nice they looked, too.

Indeed. XH558 also sported the scheme for a while too.

Always wondered why the guys looking after 603 didn’t finish the paint job off. One rumour I’ve heard was that it was supposed to represent the prototypes all white scheme, but I know I’d prefer it if it wore the operational scheme with the relevant black painted bits.
    Just my opinion though. 🙂

wow indeed I had understood she had considerable metal corrosion issues in the nose bay and undercarriage department and also that certain collections and other Vulcan’s where supposed to be going to be the recipients of parts of her to continue their existence.

Yes, I’ve read similar things about it having problems with the undercarriage leg and generally being a bit unsafe to be near, although it’s good news if it can be saved and get a new lease of life.

With regards to bits going to other Vulcans, I believe it’s already been stripped of the useful stuff. I know XH558 has had parts from it and XM655 has had a couple of zero timed 301’s as well. As a static exhibit I would think it’s still passable.

She was repainted white she is not in original anti flash white as it flew in there in bomber command colors

Seems to be missing the black paint on the underside on the nose and on the tail tip too.

Yes, Vulcan was out and about on a mini tour today.

Did a few flypasts at various places including Melton Mowbray, Highclere Castle, Dunsfold, Wellesbourne and Royal Wooton Bassett. 🙂

Never fear, as sure as the Sun will rise in the morning, it will be repeated over and over again until the groan factor comes into play, and then it will be repeated again………

And then finally it’ll go on the ‘Dave’ channel. 😀

    Thanks Pagen01.

Looks like the magazine article is slightly wrong then with regard to the FMK-O instead of Q, although from the picture I mentioned previously and the one you’ve posted here it does seem fairly likely that the starboard side markings are indeed wrongly placed.

Happy to be corrected though, and it’s still a cracking looking aircraft.

Lovely to see the aircraft painted, but I have a couple of questions if I may.

Far be it for me to criticise anything about this wonderful aircraft but I was referring to an article in ‘Jets’ magazine from March this year about WA591, where it’s stated that:

‘When it emerges from the paintshop WA591 will be resplendent in the FMK-O markings she wore at RAF Driffield in November 1950’.

Clearly those marking are FMK-Q in the picture so that’s a little confusing. Is there a reason for this or is the article just printed wrongly?

I also notice in the same magazine that from pictures of meteors in flight the letters FMK on the starboard side are placed ahead of the roundel, with the single letter to the rear of the roundel.

The pictures shown on this thread have the FMK to the rear of the roundel and the Q to the front on the starboard side, which again is a bit confusing and conflicts with what I’m seeing from the magazine.

I’m probably being too picky, and for that I apologize but it does seem a little odd. Can anyone clarify why this is?

In the absence of any critical safety recommendations in the Service Inquiry’s initial report the precautionary suspension of Hawk T1 flying activity has been lifted and flying operations have been resumed. The Red Arrows aircraft will fly back to RAF Scampton tomorrow (Friday 26 August 2011). In preparation for the resumption of public displays the Red Arrows will begin flying eight ship formation display practices starting on 30 August 2011. Display flying by the Red Arrows team, in an eight ship formation, will recommence subject to a successful period of consolidation and approval to display. As part of their display season preparation the Red Arrows practice displays with eight aircraft so that a display can go ahead if a pilot is unable to fly

True, but that probably involves one of the outer aircraft, not one of the main formation core.

Tony the only time they wont fly an eight ship is if the Boss is unable to fly, ie: Red1.
