one down means you cannot display, plain and simple…..
That’s not true. They can and do display as an eight ship from time to time.
Sorry, but any blow to Leuchars airshow fans pales into insignificance compared to the blow the Reds team have just suffered.
Sky News now reporting that The Red Arrows are cleared to resume flying.
Just thought I’d say what a great display from the Sea Vixen at the B/mth Air Festival on Sunday.
A fantastic display of noise, power and aerobatics that made full use of the clear blue skies over the seafront.
Well done to the pilot Simon Hargreaves and all at DS Aviation. ![]()

🙁 Very sad news indeed.
The crash site is not very far from me, as you’d expect it’s been locked down and police are stopping anyone getting near.
The airport initially closed as the incident was quite close and there were helicopters on the scene, but once they cleared it opened again and the airshow has continued.
The BBMF have been up and about but I haven’t seen the Tornado’s flying today.
Not really the time for rumour.
We saw them come back to land at the airport. They flew up the runaway and broke left to right as usual and this seems to be when the incident happened.
Can’t tell you anymore though as we weren’t close enough to see clearly.
Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, Hunter, Sea Vixen, Red Arrows, to name but a few today. 😀
The Lancaster has just arrived at Hurn. 😎
Have to say I’m surprised to see it as it’s chucking it down here atm!
Well done lads. 🙂
Hopefully on its way in the morning, weather permitting. Had a snag from the weekend that wasn’t fixed until this afternoon.
That explains it then thanks.
The weather forecast is particularly bad for tomorrow so I’m not sure they’ll make it here then, but Friday is looking very favourable.
Thanks all.
Nine Red ones just left Hurn for Weymouth. 🙂
Actually it looks like I guess wrong as someone on another forum is saying they displayed at Cromer today with the black hawk in the Red 1 position as low ‘n’ slow suggested above.
Strange though, as there’s clearly nine serviceable reds that arrived here, unless one was u/s for Cromer but then fixed?
I’ll try and see whether the black one flies again later today when they go off to display at Weymouth.
Certainly not the best picture you’re likely to see, but this was the Reds arriving at Hurn this afternoon with the black one in the lead position.
With only ten aircraft in the formation, I can only think that should one aircraft go u/s then they’ll have to perform an eight ship routine.

Yeah, according to their Excel sheet, the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane were due to display at Weymouth at 1.00pm and then land at Hurn ready for the upcoming airshow.
